What you need to know

  • More official renders of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 have leaked online.
  • The renders show off the upcoming foldable from nearly every angle.
  • The phone is rumored to debut at an Unpacked event next month, alongside the flagship Galaxy Z Fold 3.

The very first official renders of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 phones surfaced last week, courtesy of noted leaker Evan Blass. More renders of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 have now appeared online, giving us an even better look at the successor to one of the best Samsung phones.

The renders appear to confirm the presence of a much larger outer display than last year's Galaxy Z Flip and Z Flip 5G models. We can also see a new two-tone color scheme on the back of the phone, with a black bar around the dual rear cameras and outer display.

According to GizNext, the phone will be available in as many as eight different color options at launch: beige, grey, black, pink, blue, green, violet, and white. While the inner screen is likely to remain largely unchanged in terms of size, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is rumored to sport a larger 1.9-inch cover display. Under the hood, the phone may have the same 5nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset as the Galaxy S21 series.

As per a recent leak, both the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 could go on sale in the U.S. and several other markets on August 27. The phones are tipped to debut at an Unpacked event sometime in the first week of August. Aside from the two foldable phones, the event could also see the launch of Samsung's Galaxy Watch 4 series and the Galaxy Buds 2.

You can expect the Galaxy Z Flip 3 to be priced around the $1,000 mark in the U.S. The Galaxy Z Flip was launched at $1,380 in the U.S. last year.

Apple’s iconic iSight webcam design makes a return in new 4K Dell UltraSharp camera - 9to5Mac

Dell has unveiled a new UltraSharp webcam that is sure to look familiar to Mac users. The UltraSharp webcam features a cylindrical design that heavily resembles Apple’s iconic iSight webcam, which Apple introduced at WWDC in 2003 and ultimately discontinued in 2008.

As The Verge reports, the UltraSharp features USB-C connectivity and supports recording or streaming in 4K:

The UltraSharp is a USB-C webcam that houses a Sony STARVIS CMOS 8.3-megapixel sensor. It’s capable of recording or streaming in 4K at 30 or 24 frames per second and in 1080p or 720p at 24, 30, or 60 frames per second. You can tweak the field of view (FOV) between 65 degrees for a close crop, 78 degrees, or 90 degrees for the widest crop available. The webcam has a bevy of auto-light correction features that aim to make your picture look good regardless of your lighting. It supports up to 5x digital zoom and has autofocus.

The UltraSharp supports both macOS and Windows, but you’ll need Dell’s Peripheral Manager software to access many of its features, and this software is only available on Windows. This includes the AI auto-framing feature, which follows your movements to keep you centered in the frame, similar to the new Center Stage feature found in the M1 iPad Pro. Also for Windows users, it features an infrared sensor that can tap into the Windows Hello face recognition platform.

There are some limitations, however, including price and the lack of a microphone:

But $199.99 isn’t cheap for a webcam, and I haven’t even gotten to its biggest omission: it doesn’t have an internal microphone. Dell said it was focused primarily on optics for this model, so you’ll need to source your own microphone — whether that’s a standalone USB or XLR mic or a headset.

For Mac users, the biggest standout feature here is the iSight-like design, which could make it a tempting option despite the limitations. For users who don’t care about the design, something like the Logitech Brio could be a better option if you need a standalone webcam.

Do you think Apple should make a standalone iSight camera again in 2021? Let us know down in the comments!

Microsoft releases Windows 11 Insider Preview - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

You can now test Windows 11 through the first Insider Preview, if you enroll in Microsoft's Insiders Program.

The preview build 22000.51 brings most of Windows 11, but doesn't feature the new Microsoft Teams Integration nor Android apps through the Store, those will come at a later time.

Among the novelties is the revised settings menu with a persistent navigation bar on left side (so you finally don't get lost in a heap of menus), an updated File Explorer, the new look, featuring four new themes - Glow, Captured Motion, Sunrise and Flow, along with new sounds.

The redesigned Notification Center and Quick Settings can be quickly accessed through Win + N and Win + A, respectively.

Microsoft releases Windows 11 Insider Preview

The new Snap Groups and Snap Layouts are part of the Insider Preview - hover over a window's maximize button to see available layouts. Snap groups lets you snap together groups of windows and later quickly jump to them.

Microsoft also gives insiders a first look at Microsoft Office, designed for Windows 11 with clipped window corners. There's also a new 64-bit Office for ARM users to test.

While it's easy enough for anyone to become a Windows Insider, it's advisory to not install the beta software on your main computer as there are known issues and unknown bugs aplenty.

Windows 11 has a vague and hard-to-follow list of supported hardware, but Microsoft has waved some of it for insiders who've enrolled prior to June 24.

Carl Pei’s ‘Nothing’ is launching its first product next month - XDA Developers

Back in October last year, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei revealed he was leaving OnePlus to start a new hardware venture. The new venture later turned out to be a company called Nothing, backed by big names like iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, YouTuber Casey Neistat, and Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin. There were multiple rumors that consumer audio was one of the primary areas that Nothing would focus on. This did turn out to be true when the company revealed in May that it would unveil a pair of earbuds called the Ear 1. The company initially planned for a June launch, but for some reason, that never happened, and Carl Pei later confirmed on Twitter that the launch was delayed until “later this summer.” Today, the company finally confirmed the launch date of the Ear 1.

In a new press invite sent out to publications, Nothing has revealed it will launch the Ear 1, its first-ever product, on July 27. The launch event will take place on 02:00 PM BST / 8:00 AM EST / 6:30 PM IST.

Press invite for Nothing's new earphones

While the invite doesn’t reveal anything about specifications or design, we know the new earbuds will be made in collaboration with Swedish consumer electronics firm “Teenage Engineering.”

The new earbuds will put Nothing in direct competition to the likes of Apple, Sony, and Samsung, which currently rule the market of truly wireless earbuds. Whether the Ear 1 will be able to stand out from the crowd and make a name for themselves remains to be seen.

Nothing acquired Andy Rubin’s Essential in February. It also raised $15 million in a Series A funding round led by Alphabet’s capital arm, GV.

Nothing has confirmed it will sell the Ear 1 in India via Flipkart and in the UK via Selfridges. They haven’t confirmed pricing or global availability, but we expect to learn more at the official launch.

Are you excited about the new earbuds from Nothing? Let us in the comments below.

Camera specs for Samsung’s powerful upcoming Galaxy M52 5G revealed - SamMobile

Samsung has what could be its most powerful Galaxy M series phone yet in the works. The Galaxy M52 5G was recently spotted with what looks like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G processor, and it is expected to be the second 5G-enabled Galaxy M smartphone Samsung will bring to the market.

Today, camera specs for the Galaxy M52 5G have been revealed by our friends over at GalaxyClub, and it seems things aren’t going to be very interesting — or unique — on that front compared to what we can expect from the phone in terms of pure processing power.

Galaxy M52 5G camera specs aren’t particuarly exciting

That’s because it seems the Galaxy M52 5G will have a camera setup similar to the one we see on the Galaxy A52. It’s already known that the M52 5G will have a 64MP main shooter, and we’re now learning that it will be accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide sensor and a 5MP macro sensor.

There’s no word on a fourth rear sensor, though we can expect a 5MP depth sensor to be part of the setup as well. As for selfies, those will apparently be handled by a 32MP sensor.  Again, nothing particularly interesting or new here, as these are pretty common camera specs for mid-rangers Samsung has launched in 2021.

As for other Galaxy M52 5G specs, those are currently a mystery, though it’s likely to share some of its hardware with the Galaxy A52. Whether or not that means the phone will have features like stereo speakers and IP67 water and dust resistance remains to be seen. Battery capacity is not known, either, but at least a 6,000 mAh cell is likely, considering the M51 has a 7,000 mAh battery and anything less than 6,000 mAh would be a huge downgrade.

Windows 11 Insider Preview Now Available for Download, October Release Date Suggested - Gadgets 360

Windows 11 is set to reach general availability stage sometime later this year. But ahead of that, Microsoft has released the first Windows 11 Insider Preview build for developers to test the new experience. The Windows 11 preview includes features such as the centrally-placed Start menu and taskbar as well as new themes and sounds — almost all that was showcased at the virtual Windows event last week. In addition to the debut of Windows 11 preview build, Microsoft seems to be hinting at an October release date for Windows 11. The launch could happen precisely on October 20.

Windows 11 Insider Preview features

The first Windows 11 Insider Preview (build 22000.51) carries most of the features that Microsoft showcased at the Windows event last week. These include all-new Start menu and taskbar that now sit in the centre of the display and come with new animation effects, enhanced Notification Centre and Quick Settings, and new themes. The Windows 11 preview also includes the new sounds including the new startup sound that will refresh your experience. Further, there is an updated File Explorer that will show context menus when right-clicking on the screen.

Microsoft has also provided widgets that you can look at by clicking on the dedicated Widgets icon in the taskbar. You can also swipe from the left using the touch bar/ display or hitting Win + W on the keyboard to access the widgets. There are, by default, widgets for calendar, weather, local traffic, Microsoft To Do lists, OneDrive photos, sports and esports, stock watchlist, and tips. The widgets section also includes a news feed section to show personalised news content.

The first Windows 11 preview brings the new multitasking features introduced by Microsoft at the launch event, including Snap layouts and Snap Groups. There is also access to multiple virtual desktops. You'll additionally be able to look at the new Microsoft Store that has an updated interface and a dedicated Entertainment tab.

In terms of specific hardware-focussed changes, the first Windows 11 Insider Preview build brings a new docking experience for users working on multiple monitors. There are also features including dynamic refresh rate and display improvements such as Auto HDR support. For machines that have an accelerometer, the Windows 11 lock screen also has a parallax motion effect.

The Windows 11 preview has gets touch keyboard personalisations, voice typing launcher, improved gesture controls, pen menu for stylus inputs, and an updated input switcher.

Microsoft has also provided Wi-Fi 6E support for the machines that have the compatible hardware and driver in place. Furthermore, Microsoft Office has received a new preview build to align with the Windows 11 beta.

Having said that, the first Windows 11 preview does exclude some of the features that Microsoft showcased last week — one of them is Microsoft Teams integration and the other is support for Android apps on Windows. Both are currently under testing and are likely to be provided in a later preview build.

It is advised to download the first Windows 11 preview only on secondary devices as it includes some known issues. These include limited taskbar that will not be shown across multiple monitors, unavailability of the ‘Power mode' setting on the Power & battery page, and misaligned widgets on external monitors. There are also many bugs that could impact your day-to-day experience.

How to download Windows 11 Insider Preview build

To download the first Windows 11 Insider Preview build on your Windows 10 PC, you will need to enrol in the Windows Insiders programme and then visit Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program. Microsoft is providing the testing build specifically on compatible machines, though it has brought some changes in the minimum hardware requirement for testing Windows 11 on a diverse range of systems. The changes include support for Intel 7th generation and AMD Zen 1. However, the fundamental minimum requirements remain the same — greater than 1GHz and dual-core processors, 4GB RAM, and 64GB of onboard storage.

Microsoft has also temporarily removed its PC Health Check app that was meant to allow Windows 10 users to see whether their PCs are compatible with Windows 11. The app will, however, be back around the time of Windows 11's general availability.

Windows 11 release date suggested for October

Alongside the release of the first Windows 11 preview, Microsoft is supposedly hinting at an October release date for Windows 11. As The Verge reports, the release date was suggested multiple times during the Windows event last week. Those hints include a Microsoft Teams message from Surface engineer Stevie Bathiche that appeared on a Windows 11 screen showcased during the virtual event. The message addressed to Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay reads, “Excited to turn it up to 11… can't wait for October!”

In other instances, Microsoft even suggested October 20 as the release date for Windows 11. It could also be the time when the Redmond, Washington-based company would unveil its new Surface devices based on the new Windows operating system.

Walmart has also suggested the October release date by promising customers to bring a “free Upgrade to Windows October 2021 when available” on a list of laptops available online.

Microsoft hasn't officially confirmed when exactly it is planning to release Windows 11. The company has only said “this holiday” and “this fall” for the availability of the new Windows version.

Nothing’s debut wireless earbuds will be announced on July 27 - The Verge

Tech startup Nothing will announce its debut pair of true wireless earbuds, the Nothing Ear (1), at 9AM ET on July 27th, the company’s founder Carl Pei announced today. The launch comes around a month later than the June launch window Nothing previously announced, after Pei tweeted that the company was delaying the launch because it had “a few things left to finalize.” Carl Pei is best known as one of the co-founders of OnePlus, a company he parted ways with last year.

Details about the Nothing Ear (1) are thin, but the company has teased several details about them over the past few months. We know they’ll have a “stripped-down aesthetic” featuring transparent materials in their construction, and that they’ve been designed in collaboration with Teenage Engineering. But Nothing has been far less forthcoming about the earbuds’ tech specs.

Wireless earbuds are the first product category that Nothing is planning to tackle, but Carl Pei has talked about moving into more areas over time. In an interview with The Verge in January, Pei said the company eventually hopes to build up an entire ecosystem of interconnected devices. “The ultimate vision of having everything connected in a seamless way, that can only happen when you have multiple categories of products,” Pei said.
