Last month, Oppo announced its Memory (RAM) Expansion Technology which allowed select Oppo smartphone users to increase their RAM capacity virtually. The feature was first announced in Singapore and now, the company is expanding the feature to Middle Eastern and African regions as well.
The Memory Expansion feature on Oppo devices works by taking some parts of the onboard storage (ROM) and converting them into virtual RAM. Simply put, if the smartphone has 8GB RAM, users can allocate more RAM to it using this feature. Though the set limit is up to 7GB which can be used as virtual memory by users.
The virtual RAM feature will help users boost the performance of their smartphones by a margin and that too without the need of additional hardware or technical knowledge, but temporarily. According to the report, users will get three levels of adjustment for this. Users will first need to update their smartphone with the latest update and then head to Settings ->About Phone to allocate virtual memory from the storage and restart their device.
The feature will be rolled out with the June 2021 update and is currently supported on Oppo A94, Oppo A74 and Oppo Reno 5 smartphones.
