Switch Pro: Nintendo swiftly denies claims 11 studios are working on 4K games - Video Games Chronicle

Nintendo has moved to swiftly deny a new report claiming that at least 11 studios have 4K Switch development kits.

Bloomberg claims that at least 11 companies, including Zynga, have software toolkits provided by Nintendo that feature support for 4K graphics.

The article claims that by the time Nintendo had officially revealed the Switch OLED in July, it had already handed out 4K development kits to third-party studios and asked them to start making 4K-supported games.

It also claims that Nintendo still plans to release an enhanced 4K-supported ‘Switch Pro’, planned for late 2022 at the earliest.

In a rare move for the company, Nintendo’s Japanese arm promptly took to Twitter to publicly deny the report. The company’s official Japanese corporate account posted a tweet just three hours after the article’s publication, claiming that it was false.

“A news report on Sept. 30, 2021 falsely claims that Nintendo is supplying tools to drive game development for a Nintendo Switch with 4K support,” it read.

“To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to clarify that this report is not true.

“We also want to restate that, as we announced in July, we have no plans for any new model other than Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, which will launch on October 8, 2021.”

Bloomberg’s report includes information from Zynga employees, who were asked not to be identified. After it was publisher, however, a Zynga spokeperson told Bloomberg: “To clarify, Zynga does not have a 4K developer kit from Nintendo.”

Nintendo announced the new Nintendo Switch OLED model in July, with confirmation of a larger 7-inch OLED screen and other smaller additions such as a wide adjustable stand, a new dock and enhanced audio.

However, there was no mention of 4K resolution support or increased hardware power, as had been heavily reported before the system’s announcement.
