WhatsApp has been one of the most popular messaging apps for a long time even as competitors like Telegram and Signal keep whittling away and grabbing big chunks of its subscribers. WhatsApp is a massive app and there are many hidden tricks that even the most proficient of its users are not able to find. So, even if you have been using it for a long time to connect with your friends, family or even the office groups, there are quite a few hidden WhatsApp tricks and shortcuts you should know about. Why? Because they can make your messaging experience easy and above all, make your chats standout from the rest.
While texting, you must have noticed some WhatsApp text styles which are different from the normal ones. These chats include features like bold, italics and strikethroughs. These are the basic text stylising techniques for text in WhatsApp that can really make a difference to how your messages are perceived by the receivers.
Make a sentence or word bold
You can use the bold feature for specific parts of the text or sentence to emphasise a certain point in your long message on WhatsApp. This is widely used to make a title of the message or to make a text stand out to put emphasis on it. All you need to do to apply this effect is put an asterisk at the start and end of the word or phrase which you want to embolden like, *the bold text*, and it will make your text bold for you and for the receiver of the message as well.
Make your text Italics
Another way to make your text stand out or make it different from the rest of the information is the italics feature. It can be used in a similar manner to the way you made your text bold. But for italics you will need to place an underscore on the left as well as the right side of a word or phrase. Just like this, _your text in italics_
Strikethrough text
This is one of the more interesting features! It is exactly like the way we strikethrough our words or phrases in a notebook. And you can do the same in your WhatsApp messages too. This feature draws a line all over the text or word that you have selected within the feature. It is usually used to show that something is wrong or which needs to be ignored. To apply the strikethrough effect, you need to place tilde character either side of the phrase or text, like this: ~Strikethrough text goes here~.
