TL;DR
- Google is reportedly working on a more convenient way to activate QR scanning functionality in Android 13.
- This would see QR code scanning shortcuts via the lock screen and quick toggle settings.
QR code scanning in Android can vary somewhat from brand to brand, with Google Lens being the most common method. We’ve also seen some OEMs offer their own scanning functionality in camera apps or via a dedicated app.
It looks like Android 13 could gain more intuitive QR code scanning though. Android Police obtained two screenshots from a “trusted source,” showing the ability to launch QR code scanning via the lock screen or via a quick toggle button in the notification shade. You can view the outlet’s screenshots below.
It’s unclear if activating either option launches a brand-new app/interface or if it simply takes you to the Google Lens app and scanning tool. Nevertheless, this seems like a more seamless, intuitive way of activating QR code scanning functionality.
This wouldn’t be the first time we see QR code scanning functionality in quick toggle settings though, as Samsung has offered this option for a while now. In any event, Google’s move to bring it to stock Android 13 means we can expect way more OEMs to adopt the feature as well.
