With the start of the new year, the annual cycle of smartphone launches will repeat itself. For the house of Asus, this will mean a new top-of-the-line smartphone named Asus Zenfone 9, as well as a flagship phone under its gaming division Republic of Gamers. New leaks on the internet now give us our first-ever preview of the two Asus phones.
A new report claims to show leaked designs of both Asus Zenfone 9 and the ROG Phone 6, as the new ROG flagship phone will likely be called. The leaked images come in the form of 2D sketches and depict all of the components of both smartphones in detail. A look at the sketches and it is easy to figure that these might indeed be the next big phones from Asus.
First spotted by GizChina, the report comes from Equal Leaks and claims that both the Zenfone 9 and the ROG Phone 6 series devices will be powered by Qualcomm's recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. As for the details on the former, the Zenfone 9 may do away with Asus' iconic flip camera design, and instead, go for a secondary display at the back.
Asus Zenfone 9
So what will this mean for the new Asus flagship? This means that the Zenfone 9 will not have a selfie shooter on its display, and instead, go for a completely immersive screen. Selfies will then be taken care of by the Zenfone 9's main camera setup at the back. So to take a selfie, just rotate the phone, point the camera towards you, see how the photo is turning out through the secondary display, and click away.
This will be a stark shift from Asus' flip cameras, which are meant to be an alternative to the selfie camera setup. The back panel will reportedly have functions other than the secondary display too. Equal Leaks mentions that the Zenfone 9 will come with a touch sensor at the back for added functionalities, like taking screenshots, photos and opening or closing a flashlight.
Asus ROG Phone 6
Just as in 2021, Asus will likely launch two models under its ROG Phone 6 lineup. These might include the vanilla model, along with ROG Phone 6 Pro. The new report shares that the phones will have a largely similar design to their ROG Phone 5 series counterparts.
Asus ROG Phone 6 may feature the same triple-lens camera setup as the Phone 5. The placement of the lenses and the LED flash within this, however, will likely be different. The sketches show the horizontal module housing all three lenses as well as the LED flash.
The design on the back panel is also different than before, and both the phones will differ in their looks based on this. They will, however, feature a vertical display stick at the back for notifications and other imagery.
Since these are the first of their kind leaks, not much information about the phones is available so far. Though looking at these, we can expect to see some really attractive phones in 2022 from the house of Asus.
