Apple’s Latest MacBook Pro Rumor Sounds Too Good To Be True - Forbes

With the rise of foldable screens and alternative form factors in mobile devices, Apple’s traditional designs are being challenged by many manufacturers. Is Tim Cook and his team preparing Apple to join the foldable race and blur the lines between the MacBook and iPad?

In his weekly newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman writes:

“I’m told Apple has indeed been exploring a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid that would take the second approach. It would trade in the physical keyboard and trackpad for a fully touch-screen base…the device has been in development for the past couple of years.”

Which will, no doubt, get the geekerati incredibly excited. Foldable smartphones are set to be the mainstream (at least in the premium space) during 2022, devices such as Microsoft’s Surface Duo have challenged conventional looks, folding laptop screens are on the rise...

...and Apple has been focusing on the move to Apple Silicon and the overwhelming volume of software required to support that move. So clearly now is the time for Apple to innovate with the hardware?

Hold on a minute. When was the last time you remember Apple making an absolute and fundamental change to the look and feel of a product? I’m not talking about the addition of a notch to get some more sensors on the iPhone X, the removal of the iPod Mini’s hard drive and an immediate end of line as the iPod Nano arrives, or the eventual arrival of Qi wireless charging. I’m talking about the impact of something like a foldable screen to a large-format iPhone.

The modern Apple rarely leads with these massive changes. While there may be suitable screens out there for a folding iPad/MacBook hybrid, I think it unlikely we’ll see them on the retail shelves in the near future. I’m sure that of you visited Apple’s Research and Development department and had the freedom to roam around you would find such a laptop. You’d probably find quite a few iterations, with various 3D printed design chassis designs, sample displays, and a big connector cable running out the back hooked into a mac Mini that acted as the ‘internals’ of the prototype.

Just like Apple’s published patents (and yes you’ll find devices like this hybrid in Apple’s patents) something may exist and be working, but that does not always mean you’re going to be able to walk into an Apple Store later this year and pick up a consumer-ready model.

Apple’s going to be late to the party. It’s been late to every party. But when the 10,000 lb elephant arrives in the room, you’ll know it has arrived.

Now read the latest MacBook, iPad, and iPhone headlines in our weekly Apple news round-up...

Poco’s X4 Pro 5G brings a 120Hz AMOLED display and 108MP camera at a budget price - The Verge

The Xiaomi-owned Poco debuted the X4 Pro 5G and M4 Pro at Europe’s MWC 2022, both of which offer fairly impressive specs for prices you’d typically find on mid-range phones.

Poco describes its X4 Pro 5G as providing a “flagship-level experience,” but for a price of €299 (~$335) or €349 (~$391), depending on the storage level you choose. The cheaper model comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, with the more expensive model providing 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage.

Poco’s X4 Pro 5G is the successor to the X3 GT Poco released last July, with similar specs for an affordable price tag. The X4 Pro features a 6.67-inch AMOLED DotDisplay screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz sampling rate, and a 2400 x 1080 FHD+ resolution. On its rear are three camera sensors: a 108MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and 2MP micro camera, while the front of the device houses a 16MP selfie camera.

In terms of processing power, the X4 Pro comes with an eight-core Snapdragon 695 5G processor. It also has a 5,000mAh battery — which Poco claims can power 15 hours of video playback or up to 25 hours of reading — and supports 67W fast charging.

Poco’s cheaper device, the M4 Pro, sports a 6.43-inch AMOLED DotDisplay screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate. It comes with a 64MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide camera, 2MP macro lens on its rear, and 16MP camera on the front. Like the X4 Pro, the M4 Pro has the same 2400 x 1800 FHD+ resolution and 5,000mAh battery but swaps the Snapdragon chip for an octa-core MediaTek Helio G96. The M4 Pro costs €219 (~$246) for 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or €269 (~$302) for 8GB/256GB.

Both devices come in black, blue, and yellow. Poco says they’ll be available for an early bird discount beginning on March 2nd, with the X4 Pro starting at €249 (~$279) and M4 Pro starting at €179 (~$201). There’s no information on a US release date, but it will be available on retailers including Amazon.

As the most premium flagship line-up ever from the smartphone maker, the Realme GT 2 series marks the brand's entry into the high-end market. Both the devices will go on sale starting March 11 in Europe. The India launch of the Realme GT 2 Pro and Realme GT 2 are not known.

“To go premium, we will invest more than 70 per cent of the company’s R&D resources on exploring advanced technologies in the display, fast charging and 5G-related performance to provide users with top-tier flagship experiences, Madhav Sheth, VP of Realme and President of Realme International Business Group, said in a statement adding that the brand requires tremendous investment on tech innovation, user insights and brand building to strongly push into the high-end segment.

Apple has a 20-inch foldable answer to Samsung Galaxy Book Fold laptop - SamMobile

It’s no secret that Samsung wants to expand its foldable display technology to more products. Since last year, it has been reported that the company plans to launch foldable laptops. They may be called the Galaxy Book Fold.

Apple doesn’t have an answer to Samsung’s foldable smartphones yet. However, it appears to be working on a foldable laptop type device of its own. Rumor has it that this device will have a 20-inch display.

Galaxy Book Fold may have competition from Apple

Details about Samsung’s Galaxy Book Fold laptops are slim at this point. The company is believed to be working on several prototypes with 10, 14 and 17-inch screen sizes. It’s also unclear when Samsung intends to launch these laptops. Recent reports have suggested that Samsung wants to bring the Galaxy Book Fold to market sooner rather than later.

As per Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter Apple might be working on a new device, described as an “iPad / MacBook hybrid” with a 20-inch foldable display panel. This isn’t the first we’ve heard about Apple exploring the possibility of such a device.

The device will reportedly have a dual-screen display and much like Samsung’s Galaxy Book Fold, it won’t have a conventional keyboard and trackpad. Typing and navigating will be done entirely on the display.

Could Apple beat Samsung to market with this device? That sounds unlikely. The report predicts we may not see this device until 2026. By then, we may have had a couple of generations of the Galaxy Book Fold, if all goes according to plan for Samsung.

This just goes to show the different approach that Apple takes. It’s not rushing into the foldable smartphone market, effectively leaving it open for Android manufacturers. The company may be a believer in foldable display technology, but it’s going to utilize it in a way that’s a bit different from what everyone else is doing.

MWC 2022: Realme launches flagship GT 2 Pro; GT Neo 3 will come with 150W charging - The Indian Express

Realme has introduced its flagship GT Pro 2 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022. The company also announced that its upcoming GT Neo 3 smartphone will come with 150W ‘UltraDart Charge’ technology, which will charge the phone to 50 per cent in just five minutes. The GT Neo 3 will come to the Indian market in the second quarter of 2022.

Calling the GT 2 Pro a “much more ambitious project” for the Realme brand, Madhav Sheth, VP of Realme and President of Realme International Business Group, said they were hoping to offer another choice to consumers. Sheth admitted that the segment was dominated by Apple and Samsung.

“We have used a 150-degree wide-angle camera, which is 50MP. I think that’s one of the most amazing features of this particular device. The phone is loaded with all the top features and I believe that we will be able to create more choices for the users in this price segment,” he told indianexpress.com.

He also pointed out that the phone would run Realme UI 3.0 based on Android 12 offering several customisation options to customers along with complete control over privacy.

Regarding the 150W fast charging, Sheth stressed that this would not be the only selling point of the device. Rather the company sees it as a feature that can bring peace of mind to a user’s mind. “In today’s world, what people want is to stay connected. Fast charging is just one of the technologies which is a touchpoint for the consumers, which enhances the consumer experience and gives complete peace of mind. We want to ensure that this is not just about a marketing concept,” he added.

He also said that the brand plans to bring more ecosystem devices to the country such as audio products, wearables, laptops, tablets, and TVs.

Realme GT 2 Pro specifications, price

Realme GT 2 Pro is the company’s most premium flagship to date. It has a starting price of Euro 649 or nearly $725. For India, this comes to Rs 54,000 approximately, though the official price for the market is yet to be announced. GT 2 will start at Euro 449. Realme GT 2 Pro is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, while GT 2 will be powered by the Snapdragon 888.

GT 2 Pro gets a 6.7-inch AMOLED 2K resolution display, with the brand using low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) 2.0 technology, which allows for the refresh rate to auto-adjust depending on the need and is also better for battery life. The refresh rate can go from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. This is a 10-bit colour display with a peak brightness of 1400 nits. The phone comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on top for protection.

Realme claims the phone has improved cooling as well with a 9-layer cooling structure to ensure sustained performance without any overheating. The company states it has collaborated with world-renowned industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa to create the industry’s first bio-based polymer design.

The phone comes in four colour variants – Paper White, Paper Green, Steel Black, Titanium Blue. The rear shell of the Realme GT 2 Pro Master Edition is made of a “bio-based copolymer material,” which ensures lower carbon emissions and the source of the material is derived from “biomass waste or residue.”

The phone has a triple camera, which includes a 150-degree ultra-wide camera. Realme is using two 50MP cameras at the back; one is wide-angle and the other is ultra-wide. The third camera is a 40MP macro camera. Both 50MP cameras use the Sony IMX766 sensor and come with pixel Omni-directional PDAF and OIS features. The IMX766 comes with both optical image stabilisation for photos and electronic image stabilisation for videos. The front camera is 32MP.

The phone will come with Realme UI 3.0 with three years of OS updates. It comes with newly-designed 3D icons, our Fluid Space Design and Omojis, along with improved privacy functions like app permission control and location hiding. Realme says it is committed to providing three years of major Android OS updates and four years of Android security patches for the GT 2 series.

Realme GT 2 Pro has a 5000 mAh battery and 65W SuperDart charging. Meanwhile, GT 2 comes with similar features as that of the GT 2 Pro, including design, battery, Realme UI 3.0 and RAM. However, this one runs the Snapdragon 888 processor.

Realme GT Neo 3 with 150W charging

The company also announced that its upcoming Realme GT Neo 3 will come with 150W charging, which will bring the phone to a 50 per cent charge in just five minutes. The company will also debut its UltraDart Charging Architecture (UDCA), the world’s first 100W-200W smart device charging architecture. Realme says it will focus on mass producing phones with this technology.

Realme’s UDCA can support charging powers between 100W and 200W. It employs Multi Boost Charge Pumps to boost the charging current, thus allowing the smartphone to be charged faster. UDCA will be safe and come with long battery life, claims the company. Realme GT Neo 3 will be the first charging smartphone coming with a new 150W under UDCA.

OnePlus 10 Pro global launch confirmed: Here's when it's coming - - Android Authority

TL;DR

  • The OnePlus 10 Pro will launch in North America, Europe, and India at the end of March.
  • OnePlus didn’t launch it outside of China back in January because of software development issues.
  • The phone won’t debut the previously announced unified OS.

OnePlus has finally set a timeline for the global launch of its first 2022 flagship — the OnePlus 10 Pro. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone will hit North America, Europe, and India at the end of March.

According to the company, the OnePlus 10 Pro is its fastest-selling phone in China. The device launched on OnePlus’ home turf back in January, and as per the firm, it raked in 100 million Yuan (a little over ~$15 million) in its first and second open sales.

If you’re wondering why OnePlus didn’t launch the phone globally earlier, the company has offered an explanation. CEO Pete Lau said during a media roundtable that software development for global markets takes longer because of factors like carrier compliance. Lau promised that the company would work at solving this issue in the future and shorten the gap between launches in China and the rest of the world.

New software incoming?

On the software front, the OnePlus 10 Pro will feature Oxygen OS 12.1 out of the box. If you were hoping to experience the “unified OS” OnePlus previously announced, you should know that the company has decided to ditch those plans. Oxygen OS is here to stay, at least on the global models of OnePlus phones.

Additionally, OnePlus announced that it’s in the process of developing Oxygen OS 13. Given that OnePlus has a three-year update policy for most of its recent flagships, the 10 Pro should be jumping to the new Oxygen OS version sometime later this year.

It’s worth noting that the OnePlus 10 Pro is the only flagship that the company will launch next month. There are no plans of announcing a vanilla OnePlus 10 just yet.

Samsung Galaxy A03 launched with a 48 megapixel camera - India Today

Samsung has unveiled its new Galaxy A-series smartphone in India. The company has unveiled the Galaxy A03 and it arrives as the first smartphone of the 2022 range of Galaxy A-series smartphones.

The device has already been listed on Samsung’s India website, and it seems like there’s only one RAM/storage combination for India: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage.

However, it would also be available from retail stores in a 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage configuration. The entry-level model goes for INR 10,499, while the upper one is priced at INR 11,999.

The Samsung Galaxy A03 comes with a 6.5-inch TFT display with 720 x 1,600 pixels that account for an HD+ resolution. The display is built on a 20:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the Galaxy A03 comes with a Unisoc T606 chipset with a maximum clock speed of 1.6GHz.

The Samsung Galaxy A03 sports a dual camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel primary shooter, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Up front, the Samsung Galaxy A03 comes with a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. The Galaxy A03 offers the Smart Selfie Angle feature, allowing users to automatically click a wide-angle selfie whenever the smartphone detects multiple faces in the frame.

The smartphone comes with a 5000 mAh battery and runs on Android 11-based One UI 3.1 out of the box.

Other features include up to 1TB microSD expansion, 3.5mm headphone jack, Dolby Atmos equalizer, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0. The smartphone supports Dolby Atmos for wired and wireless headsets.

There is no mention of fast charging, so we can conclude that it does not come with any kind of rapid charging. It probably gets a maximum rate of 10W.

Apple's 2022 iPhone SE to start at $300 - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

Apple unveiled the second-gen iPhone SE dubbed iPhone SE (2020) two years ago, and the company is rumored to return with its successor on March 8 at an event where it's also expected to announce a refreshed iPad Air. While Apple hasn't confirmed the event yet, analyst John Donovan says the new iPhone SE could start at $300. That's $99 less than the base price of the iPhone SE (2020).

However, another analyst, Daniel Ives, thinks that Apple will stick with the $399 base price, but doesn't rule out a lower price.

The new iPhone SE, rumored to be called iPhone SE+ 5G, is expected to come with 5G support, an improved camera, and Apple's A15 Bionic chip, which debuted with the iPhone 13 lineup last year.

While the iPhone SE+ 5G will come with some improvements over its predecessor, there won't be any major changes in the design department since the smartphone is expected to stick with the same old iPhone 8-like design from 2017.

Respawn recently posted on their Twitter handle that the game's beta version is being released once more in select countries. Sadly, India is not one of them. Mobile gaming enthusiasts are still in the dark when it comes to the game's global launch.

Apex Legends is basically Free Fire but good

Apex Legends is basically Free Fire but good

Following the Free Fire ban, many mobile gamers are looking forward to the game’s release. However, it is doubtful if Apex Legends Mobile will be accepted as an alternative to the banned battle royale game.

Should Apex Legends Mobile release now that Free Fire is banned?

Despite its release date, Apex Legends Mobile will receive a good reception from the Indian mobile gaming community. The game’s success does not depend on the ban, as most of the Free Fire audience has shifted to Free Fire MAX.

The enhanced version of Garena’s flagship title is still available for download on the Google Play Store, and players can use their old accounts to enjoy the game.

Moreover, the target audience of Free Fire in India mostly had low-end Android devices, and the game’s minimum requirement allowed them to enjoy it on their smartphones. The same is not the case with Apex Legends Mobile.

The beta version will be released soon (Image via Hydra Gaming (YouTube)
The beta version will be released soon (Image via Hydra Gaming (YouTube)

As per the latest FAQs unveiled by Electronic Arts, the battle royale game has the following minimum device requirements:

Android

  • Android 8.1
  • Open GL 3.0 or higher
  • 3 GB free space
  • At least 3 GB RAM
  • Screens size: N/L/XL

iOS

  • iPhone 6S or later
  • OS version: 10.0 or later
  • CPU: A9
  • 3 GB free space
  • At least 2GB RAM

Hence, it is clear that the upcoming battle royale game is not compatible with low-end devices. Therefore, it cannot be considered an alternative to Free Fire mobile gamers with low-end smartphones.
