OnePlus has announced OxygenOS 13 via its official forum. While the announcement comes as a big relief to a lot of OnePlus’s OxygenOS fans, it has also led to a big confusion among the smartphone industry and fans.
If you don’t remember, last year, OnePlus and Oppo announced the merger of OxygenOS and ColorOS to bring a unified OS to the future OnePlus smartphones. That was supposed to end the life of OxygenOS from the OnePlus smartphones.
However, instead of a unified operating system that both the brands were together supposed to push, never happened, and the OnePlus smartphones started receiving ColorOS. Also, the recently launched OnePlus 10 Pro in China, runs ColorOS out-of-the-box.
Coming back to the OxygenOS 13 announcement, the post on forum reads, “Now, it's already 2022 and while we can't move to offline events just yet (I'm sure everyone in the Community Team would love to meet you in person), we're bringing back the online OEFs to overcome the distance between us with a brand new topic – OxygenOS 13”.
This certainly means that OnePlus hasn’t entirely axed the OxygenOS for their smartphones and this also suggests that the company might stick to the Oxygen OS a little longer. Although, the question still remains whether this is a short-term or a long-term approach.
Meanwhile, if you are a OnePlus fan and want to participate in the company’s upcoming OEF (Open Ear Forum), the event is scheduled for February 28 between 5pm and 7pm (Indian Standard Time).
Interested people will need to register themselves through official forum post by filling up a small survey and entering details like email, community name and a non-disclosure agreement.
As mentioned, the OxygenOS 13 announcement comes as a huge relief to a lot of OnePlus fans, but there are a lot that need to be answered. For example, whether the older OnePlus phones will receive OxygenOS or ColorOS? What happened to the OnePlus and Oppo unified OS that was earlier planned and more.
