BIG leak ahead of WWDC 2023! This is what the Apple mixed reality headset could look like - HT Tech

In just 5 more days, the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 will go live. And this year's event is special. Not only will we get to see what iOS 17 could bring to iPhones, but we might also see a new product line being launched by Apple. Yes, we are talking about the Apple mixed reality headset which is also called the Apple AR/VR headset and the Apple Reality Pro. The new Apple product will be instrumental in creating the augmented reality and virtual reality ecosystem for the company, as per reports. And right before the event, we have a new leak that tells us about the display specifications of the headset. Let us take a look.

The leak comes from display analyst and tipster Ross Young who reveals the specifications for the two displays that have been rumored to be placed inside the headset. According to his tweet, the headsets can feature micro OLED screen technology. The two displays will be 1.41-inch diagonally with 4000 ppi (pixels per inch) and more than 5000 nits of peak brightness, as per his claims.

It should be noted that if true, these display specifications will be more than we have seen in any VR headsets in the market. For instance, the PSVR2 has 2000 ppi whereas Meta Quest Pro offers 1800x1920 ppi.

What else we know about Apple mixed reality headset

Various sources have claimed that the first-of-its-kind headset can be priced $3000. This is a much higher price than the PSV 2 which starts at $550 and Meta Quest Pro which starts at $999.

If it seems a bit too expensive for your casual gaming sessions over the weekend, then don't be alarmed. This headset is not targeted towards gamers. According to reports, the device is being targeted at developers who will use it to build apps and tools in AR and VR to create Apple's new ecosystem. And to justify the price, it has been rumored that Apple can add a wide range of high-end AR/VR features.

Do note that these are all based on leaks and rumors and no official sources have confirmed the information shared. So, do take it with a pinch of salt and wait till the WWDC 2023 to know what these headsets will be like.

Canalys: Four iPhones top flagship sales charts in Q1 2023, S23 Ultra most popular Android - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

Canalys's latest report Apple's iPhone lineup topped the premium segment during Q1 2023. According to their estimates, the iPhone 14 Pro Max was the best-selling flagship, followed by the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14, and iPhone 13.

31% of all shipments between January and March 2023 were of premium devices that are over $500 MSRP, the highest in the last five years. This particular segment increased 4.7% YoY far outperforming the overall smartphone market, which declined 13.3% on a yearly basis.

Canalys: Three iPhone 14 devices were Top 3 best-selling flagships in Q1 2023

The data revealed that the best-selling Android flagship for Q1 was the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. The Top 15 is primarily occupied by Samsung and Apple devices, which is understandable given the far wider availability of their premium devices.

For example, Google is selling the Pixel 7 series in 17 countries; Oppo is keeping the Find N2 to China, while Honor is still trying to catch up and was late to the party with an April launch of the Magic5 Pro.

Canalys: Three iPhone 14 devices were Top 3 best-selling flagships in Q1 2023

Canalys analyst Nicole Peng said earlier this week it will take some time for vendors to get back on track and record a healthy increase in shipments. The forecast for 2023 is a demand to remain slow, but hopes are 2024 will see a return to growth.

DogeRAT Malware Impersonates BFSI, Entertainment, E-commerce Apps - Infosecurity Magazine

Editorial image credit: 22 TREE HOUSE / Shutterstock.com

A sophisticated malware campaign called DogeRAT has been observed impersonating Android banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), e-commerce and entertainment apps.

Discovered by security researchers at CloudSEK, the malicious campaign relies on open source Android malware to compromise the security of victims’ devices and obtain sensitive information, including contacts, messages and banking details.

Upon installation, the malware requires various permissions, including access to call logs and audio recordings and to read SMS messages, media and photos.

It then uses these to manipulate the device and carry out malicious activities, like sending spam messages, making unauthorized payments, altering files and taking pictures through the camera without the user’s knowledge.

“This campaign is a stark reminder of the financial motivation driving scammers to continually evolve their tactics,” explained CloudSEK threat intelligence researcher Anshuman Das.

“They are not just limited to creating phishing websites, but also distributing modified RATs or repurposing malicious apps to execute scam campaigns that are low-cost and easy to set up, yet yield high returns.”

DogeRAT is advertised by its creator through Telegram Channels, which offer a premium version of the malware costing roughly $30 and featuring additional capabilities like taking screenshots, stealing images, acting as a keylogger and more.

The malware’s developer has also created a GitHub repository to host it, which showcases a video tutorial and a comprehensive list of features and capabilities.

DogeRAT operates using Java-based server-side code written in NodeJs, enabling communication between the malware and the Telegram Bot.

It then uses a web view to show the URL of the targeted entity, making it seem more legitimate.

To safeguard against this risk, experts suggest practicing careful clicking habits when it comes to links and attachments, regularly updating software, utilizing a security solution, being mindful of common scam indicators and educating oneself about malware.

The CloudSek advisory comes days after ESET security researchers shed light on a separate trojanized Android app with thousands of installs.

At WWDC, Apple likely to launch trade-in scheme for new Mac models - Hindustan Times

By, New Delhi
May 29, 2023 06:03 PM IST

The scheme is likely to be announced on June 5 which, incidentally, is also the opening-day of the 2023 edition of the tech giant's annual WWDC event.

On June 5, Apple is planning to introduce a trade-in scheme for a range of new Mac models. Interestingly, this is also the first day of the 2023 edition of Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC); the trade-in scheme, therefore, is an indication that the tech giant will launch new Macs at the 5-day event.

That the Cupertino-based company is planning to begin such a programme for new Macs, is according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who is its Chief Correspondent on Apple.

According to Gurman, Apple, under the scheme, will accept trade-ins for Mac Studio, 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, and 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro. For instance, the owner of an M2 MacBook Air will be able to trade-in the former and, in turn, obtain credit towards the long-rumoured MacBook Air (15 inch).

Which new Mac models will be launched during WWDC 2023?

In an article, Gurman noted that the company has several new models in the work, besides the 15-inch MacBook Air. These are 13-inch MacBook Air (updated), entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro, a refreshed 24-inch iMac, the first Mac Pro with in-house chips, and updated high-end MacBook Pro models.

Apple trade-in programme

Under this, one can exchange an existing Apple device (Mac, iPad, iPhone, tablet, and laptop) and earn credit towards a correspnding new device. More details are available here.

The market has seen a healthy breakout of last eight-day consolidation and closed at the highest level of current calendar year on May 26. The upward journey is attributed to the rally across sectors, with FMCG, IT, Metal and Pharma being the biggest gainers. The BSE Sensex jumped more than 600 points to 62,502, and the Nifty50 spiked 178 points to 18,499, the highest closing level since December 14, 2022 and has seen a breakout of downward sloping resistance trendline adjoining highs of December 1 (record high), and May 15, 2023. The Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indices also gained momentum, rising 0.8 percent and 0.5 percent respectively on positive breadth, while India VIX, the fear index, dropped by 4.95 percent to 11.90 levels, from 12.52 levels, giving more comfort for bulls. Stocks that performed better than broader markets included eClerx Services which surged 9 percent to Rs 1,538, the highest closing level since September 14 last year and recouped all its previous day's losses. iPhone 15 impact: Apple to discontinue iPhone 12? Check list NOW - HT Tech

The iPhone 14 might be the latest Apple smartphone in the market, but the iPhone 15 is definitely the talk of the town. There have been plenty of leaks and rumors about the upcoming lineup and they have painted a stunning picture of what the phone can potentially be. But while there is excitement on one hand, there is also a little disappointment because this would also be the time when Apple would inevitably discontinue some of its older smartphones and they will not be available for purchase. iPhone 12 could be one of them. But which other smartphones are likely to disappear in the Fall of 2023? Let us take a look.

The current Apple lineup

These are smartphones that can be directly bought from either the online Apple website or Apple stores across the globe. And every year, Apple removes some smartphone models as it introduces new ones. You can still find older iPhones such as iPhone 11 on Amazon and some other retailers but either these are refurbished or pre-owned smartphones or the stock that reached a dealer but did not sell out yet. With that being said, let us take a look at the smartphones you can currently buy from Apple.

The list includes iPhone SE 2022, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

Which iPhones can be discontinued after iPhone 15 is launched?

The most obvious one is the iPhone 12. Apple never keeps iPhones in its stores that are older than three years, and so once iPhone 15 comes to the shelves, iPhone 12 will be the first to be discontinued.

The other two likely to be discontinued models would be iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple has been discontinuing previous year's Pro models as soon as new flagship smartphones are launched for a number of years and we do not think that would change this year.

Now, coming to the trickier part, iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 14 Plus may also be discontinued. It is known that the mini models never sold much and that's why Apple decided to not include it in the iPhone 14 lineup. However, a case could be made for it that Apple may just take $100 off its price and make it available for $499, which would become a unique price point.

iPhone 14 Plus was launched for the first time last year so no one is really sure what Apple may do with it. But there are two reasons why it might be discontinued. First is its display size. Apple may feel having iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro Max as three 6.7-inch displays might be a bit too much. Also, if Apple knocks its price by $100, it would cost as much as the new iPhone 15 (provided there are no price hikes), which might be counterproductive for Apple.

However, we will still have to wait till the launch of the iPhone 15 series to really know which smartphones will be discontinued.

Despite these substantial edits, the resulting images maintain their authenticity, thanks to the remarkable power of generative AI.

Advanced Features

According to the report, DragGAN is praised for its simplicity and intuitiveness.

Its user-friendly interface allows users to quickly understand its functionality without needing to delve into the complexities of the underlying technology.

With DragGAN, desired image alterations can be achieved by adding a starting and ending point.

For example, to create a smile, placing points at the corners of the mouth and slightly further away will initiate the transformation.

DragGAN seamlessly extends the mouth between the points, ensuring realism through generative AI, which handles any gaps in the process.
DragGAN offers a masking feature, allowing selective highlighting of specific image parts for alteration while leaving the rest untouched.

Photo Editing

DragGAN stands out from existing photo editing tools that manipulate facial expressions and features.

While other tools may provide options for perspective correction, DragGAN goes beyond by allowing users to change the photo's angle of capture.

By hallucinating image data and intelligently generating pixels, DragGAN fills in the gaps that would typically require extensive Photoshop editing.

This unique feature sets DragGAN apart, enabling users to achieve their desired results with enhanced accuracy.

Ahead of iOS 17 launch, iOS 16.6 to unveil CRUCIAL update for iPhone - HT Tech

iOS 17 launch is just a couple of weeks away! It is expected to be announced during the Apple WWDC 2023 event starting on June 5. It will bring many exciting features, but ahead of that, Apple is planning to roll out a crucial iMessage update with the iOS 16.6 update. Apple released the iOS 16.6 beta yesterday which includes iMessage Contact Key Verification, a MacRumors report suggested. Although it remains uncertain whether the feature is fully operational in the initial beta release or not.

As per the report, the beta version has an iMessage Contact Key Verification option available in the Settings app of the iPhones. However, it is not showing any function while tapping on it so far. The report says that it may need additional settings to be activated or there are chances that the feature has not been fully implemented.

What is iMessage Contact Key Verification?

iMessage Contact Key Verification was introduced last year to cater to Apple users who are prone to face "extraordinary digital threats." Its purpose is to provide an additional layer of security for users such as journalists, human rights activists, and government officials who face the risk of targeted digital attacks by state-sponsored actors or other malicious entities. Apple says that "The vast majority of users will never be targeted by highly sophisticated cyberattacks, but the feature provides an important additional layer of security for those who might be."

How does it work? iMessage Contact Key Verification allows Apple users to verify that their messages are being exchanged with required recipients instead of malicious entities. Not just that, in case two or more individuals who have enabled this feature will be having a conversation, Apple will issue an alert if there is ever a breach in the cloud servers. This will help in indicating if the conversation is susceptible to unauthorized access.

Apart from these, iMessage Contact Key Verification enabled iPhone users can compare a Contact Verification Code in person, during FaceTime, or via any other app to verify the identity of the receiver.

iMessage Contact Key Verification rollout

Apple had earlier said that iMessage Contact Key Verification will be available globally in 2023, hence it is expected to be rolled out with the iOS 16.6 final update for all iPhone users.

Google Pixel 8 Pro Could Come With Temperature Sensing Tech; Check First Look Here - Jagran English

GOOGLE will likely unveil the highly-anticipated Pixel 8 series in 2023. Like previous years, the company could announce two phones - Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. While the smartphones have not been subject to intense grilling by the rumour mill, an alleged video of the Pixel 8 Pro shared by tipster Kuba Wojciechowski with 91Mobiles garnered media attention recently.

The platform claims the phone will double up as a thermometer. Pixel 8 Pro is visible with a triple camera setup packed in a single module, unlike the Pixel 7 Pro, which has a third sensor next to the dual camera setup. A centre-punch hole display is visibly similar to its predecessor.

Pixel 8 Pro temperature monitoring sensor

The sensor is placed next to the camera and below the flash. It is a dedicated IR thermometer sensor to measure temperatures in a contactless fashion. Other than body temperature, it can also assess the temperature of objects. As per the report, the data will be managed locally via Android Private Computer Core which is in the testing phase by Google workers.

To use the sensor, a user will ensure the skin is not covered with any accessory. Once the phone obtains the temperature, it will vibrate. And a user will be presented with the readings on the screen.

According to the platform, the leaked video of the Pixel 8 Pro was removed by YouTube due to "copyright" issues. But you can have a look at the feature in action on Twitter. Here's the video:

As for other leaks, the Pixel 8 series could debut in India in October. A 6.52-inch display will likely be present on the front. It might have a Tensor G3 chip under the hood. As for optics, a 50MP sensor is rumoured by reports. However, do note these details are not from official circles of the company and are subject to change before launch.

Meanwhile, the tech giant recently announced the launch of the Google Pixel Fold. The smartphone marks the official entry of the search leader in the foldable market. Alongside the foldable, the company also announced the Pixel 7a as a successor to the Pixel 6a.

Battery drain issue on Pixel 7 Pro and other Google smartphones? There is a fix; Check NOW - HT Tech

Google recently launched its latest affordable phone, the Pixel 7a at the Google I/O 2023 and it has left us impressed with the features it offers at its price point. At $100 less than the Pixel 7, the Pixel 7a gets the same processor and RAM and Pixel-specific features. What's shocking is that the Pixel 7a offers even better cameras than the more expensive Pixel 7. So, if you've been searching for a pure Android experience, we would recommend you get the Pixel 7a. But even Google's own smartphones have their own fair share of problems.

Battery drain issues

Recently, we have noticed that Pixel owners are suffering from severe battery drain issues on their smartphones. Moreover, it is also causing the phones to overheat, harming the battery life and health of the device even further. We have been using the Pixel 7a for a couple of weeks but haven't run into any battery or overheating issues so far but we'll keep an eye on it. However, Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro users have reported suffering from these issues on platforms such as Reddit.

Users on Reddit have reported as much as a 32% battery drain by just the background processes run by the Google app Android Systems Intelligence alone. Pixel owners believe a May 12 update could have triggered the battery drain problem and the culprit behind this issue is the Google app. And to confirm their suspicions, Google has recently released a statement acknowledging the issue.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

Google, in a statement to 9to5Google, has acknowledged that the battery and overheating issues are occurring due to a “backend change” within the Google app. This has been causing battery drain on a“subset of Android devices”.

Google releases a fix

Fortunately, Google has taken note of the issue and has already started rolling out a fix. This fix shouldn't require a system or app update but it will just be a server-side fix that will fix the issue immediately. “We rolled out a fix shortly after becoming aware of the issue and impacted users should see their devices return to normal behavior immediately, “ Google said in its statement.

So, if you've been suffering from battery drain and overheating issues on your Google Pixel phones, then we suggest you wait for this fix to arrive and it could solve the underlying issue.

These top 5 tips will turn you into an iPhone typing wizard; it's easy, just do it this way - HT Tech

When it comes to typing really fast on any phone, we are usually laggards. So, after a really torrid session of typing and sending a number of urgent messages on an iPhone to the boss recently (suffice it to say that he was not impressed), we thought that there has to be a better way of doing this. And, not much to our surprise, there is!

Apple iPhones have several tricks and tips to make your work easier. However, not everyone knows about them. From opening the camera to even typing, there are tricks for almost every task you can do on an iPhone. So, if you are someone who is suffering from slow typing speed (like us) and want to improve it (just like us), here are 5 best typing tricks you can try on your Apple iPhone. From one handed keyboard to text replacements- you can increase your texting speed now. Just check the step by step guide below.

1. Text replacements

You can set up text replacement with the help of which you will be able to enter a word or phrase by typing just a few characters. For example, type “omw” to enter “On my way!” That one's already set up for you, but you can also add your own. Isn't it helpful? It will surely help you increase your typing speed. Here is how you can create a text replacement.

While typing in a text field, touch and hold the Next Keyboard, Emoji key or the Switch Keyboard key. Tap Keyboard Settings, then tap Text Replacement. Click on the Add button at the top right and then type a phrase in the Phrase field and the text shortcut you want to use for it in the Shortcut field. You can also go to Settings, look for General option and click on Keyboard. Then tap Text Replacement. Tap the Add button at the top right, then enter your word or phrase in the Phrase field and the word you want it to replace with in the Shortcut field.

2. Double-tap the dot (.)

Go to Settings, look for the General option, click on Keyboard and ensure that the dot (.) is turned on. By switching the dot on, whenever you will be typing simply double-tap the spacebar and it will insert a period followed by a space.

3. Dictate text on iPhone

This one really has won our heart! With Dictation on iPhone, you can dictate text anywhere you can type. You can also use typing and Dictation together—the keyboard stays open during Dictation so you can easily switch between voice and touch to enter text. For example, you can select text with touch and replace it with your voice. It can be noted that Dictation may not be available in all languages or in all countries or regions, and features may vary.

In order to turn on Dictation go to Settings, tap on General and then click on Keyboard. Now all you need to do is Turn on Enable Dictation. Now in order to dictate text Dictate text tap to place the insertion point where you want to insert text. Tap the Dictate key on the onscreen keyboard or in any text field where it appears (as in Messages, for example). Then speak. As you speak to insert text, iPhone automatically inserts punctuation for you. You can also insert emoji by saying their names (for example, “mind blown emoji” or “happy emoji”). When you finish, tap the Stop Dictation button.

4. One-handed keyboard

If you want to use your iPhone using one hand, open a chat, hold down the keyboard's globe emoji, then tap the left or right icons at the bottom. Doing so will shrink the keyboard, making it easy to type with one hand.

5. Auto correction

This one we all know about. We also know that it can go horribly wrong sometimes and an eagle eye must be kept on it all the time. Auto-Correction uses your keyboard dictionary to spellcheck words as you type, automatically correcting misspelled words for you. To use it, just type in a text field. To make sure that Auto-Correction is turned on:

Open the Settings app, tap General and click on Keyboard. Now Turn on Auto-Correction. Notably, Auto-Correction is on by default.

Google Just Announced “Help Me Write” Feature in Gmail: AI Creates An Email With Just One Line Prompt - MarkTechPost

During Google I/O 2023, Google unveiled a new Gmail feature named Help Me Write, which generates emails on behalf of users. With just a one-line prompt from the user, the tool creates emails in a matter of seconds with the option of even choosing different writing styles, including professional, catchy, and funky.

While announcing the feature, Sundar Pichai (CEO of Google) used the example of asking an airline for a refund for a flight. Using past exchanges with the airline, the AI tool creates an entire email asking for a refund. Not only this, there is an additional feature of refining the email by formalizing it, shortening, or elaborating the same.

For those who have faced difficulties in writing impactful emails, Help Me Write is truly a godsend. This incredible tool assists users in efficiently creating thank-you notes, follow-up emails, and cover letters for job applications. Acting as an extension to Gmail’s Smart Reply and Smart Compose features, it enables users to generate these types of emails swiftly and effectively.

Benefits of Help Me Write

Help Me Write is a valuable tool that can save users time by generating email drafts. The tool keeps track of email templates, which allows users to stay organized. It also helps users improve their writing skills by offering suggestions and feedback, resulting in more polished and professional emails.

For those who use Gmail and want to enhance their email writing skills while saving time, Help Me Write is a feature worth trying.

Simply start writing an email and click on the ‘Help Me Write’ button. The tool will generate an email draft that can then be personalized as needed. Users have the option of changing the mood and tone of the email as well as making it more formal, shorter, or longer.

The tool is still in its early stages of development and, once made available for everyone, would be greatly helpful for millions.

The feature has the potential to save time and increase the productivity of users when it comes to sending emails. However, a few things should be kept in mind to extract the most of this feature.

  • Be specific and add details: To improve the quality of the text, it’s important to provide specific details. For example, when writing a job application email, keywords such as the user’s name, the job title, and the company name should be written. This will enable the AI to generate a well-written email that includes all the necessary information.
  • Put some effort into editing the draft: Although the tool can generate the template, users must put in the work and exercise their writing skills to make the email more customized and pleasant to read.
  • Give feedback: The more feedback a user provides, the better the tool will become at generating email drafts.

Help Me Write has the capability to significantly reduce the time and effort required for composing emails. The idea behind the feature is to save time on relatively mindless emails. AI is constantly learning and improving, so the tool will likely become even more helpful in the future.

I am a Civil Engineering Graduate (2022) from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and I have a keen interest in Data Science, especially Neural Networks and their application in various areas.
