New AMD Graphics Driver Update for CS2 Could Get Players Banned - Game Is Hard

A recent update to AMD’s graphics drivers introduces a feature that could potentially get players banned from Counter-Strike 2. Counter-Strike 2, the highly popular online first-person shooter, has been officially available on computers for a few weeks now. As players strive to maximize their performance and gain an advantage in the game, Valve, the developer of CS2, is cautioning against enabling a specific option integrated into AMD graphics cards.

The latest AMD Radeon drivers now provide compatibility for the Anti-Lag/+ feature in Counter-Strike 2. In theory, this function, similar to NVIDIA Reflex, reduces latency and offers a more responsive gaming experience. However, Valve’s implementation of this option in the game seems to have some issues. Counter-Strike 2’s official account warns players to “DO NOT ENABLE ANTI-LAG/+” in all caps.

It seems that Anti-Lag/+ interacts too heavily with the game’s source code. These disruptions are automatically flagged by the game’s anti-cheat system, potentially leading to a ban for the user. Both AMD and Valve are undoubtedly working to address this problem promptly. It is likely that AMD will release an update to resolve the issue and allow everyone to safely use Anti-Lag/+ in Counter-Strike 2.

In the meantime, the game continues to attract massive crowds. With over 1.2 million players in the last 24 hours, Counter-Strike 2 is enjoying unprecedented popularity. Valve has already announced that, for the time being, CS2 will only be available on the PC platform. They have no plans to release the game on other platforms such as MacOS, as they estimate that it represents less than one percent of the player base in CS:GO.
