Apple’s Find My app allows users to locate not only their iPhones but also other Apple devices like iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and even AirPods. This versatility extends beyond Apple devices; the app also supports locating items equipped with Apple's small, coin-shaped tracking device called AirTag. Now, Apple has revealed that users can can add up to 32 items in Find My.“In addition to AirTag and the third-party Find My network accessories in the Items tab, AirPods Max count as one item, AirPods and AirPods Pro (1st generation) count as two items, and AirPods Pro (2nd generation) count as three items,” Apple said in a support document.
Find My app introduces a streamlined approach to personal tracking, organized into three distinct categories, each accessible through a dedicated tab: People, Devices, and Items. The third category, Items, is where AirTags find their place, presenting a convenient solution for keeping track of personal belongings.
Originally capped at 16 items, the Items category faced a unique challenge due to the categorization of certain Apple devices. While iPhones, iPads, and Macs seamlessly fall into the Devices category, AirPods and Beats headphones are designated as Items. What adds a layer of complexity is that each pair of AirPods is accounted for as potentially three separate items within the Find My app.
The integration of the Find My network, a vast crowd-sourced network of Apple devices, enhances the precision and range of locating lost or misplaced items.
In addition to device tracking, the Find My app introduces the innovative and privacy-centric feature of finding people without compromising individual security. Users can securely share their location with trusted friends and family members, ensuring peace of mind without sacrificing privacy.
