WhatsApp Testing Message Reactions, New UI Colours In Beta Versions Of App - India Times

WhatsApp is working on two new features in its beta version of the app, one that could offer more personalisation to the UI of the app and another feature that could offer reactions to messages similar to iMessage or Instagram.

Reported by WABetaInfo, the message reaction feature would allow users to offer a way to react to a message instead of actually reply to it. The feature is currently being tested internally by WhatsApp developers and the feature isn’t yet available for beta testers at the moment.

However, WABetInfo shared a screenshot of what it would look like on devices that don’t support the feature yet. The message states, “You received a reaction. Update your version of WhatsApp to see reactions.”

We’ve seen reactions on Facebook Messenger (long-pressing the message), Instagram (by double-tapping the message) and even on Twitter.

Alternatively, for beta users on Android version 2.21.18.1, WhatsApp is testing new sets of color schemes that would allow the UI to look better in light and dark modes of the app.

It might seem like nothing really has changed, but if you look closely, the green hue changes its tone based on the light or dark mode of the app -- when it’s in dark mode, the green is slightly darker whereas in light mode, the green is lighter.

There is also a slight change in message bubbles as well as the ‘Send’ button along with green buttons in the Settings tab that have now turned grey. Even the ring that appears over status updates and chats have a different shade now.

The feature is currently being tested in beta mode and we don’t know if it will make it to the final build.
