OnePlus 10R launches in India in 80W and 150W fast charging variants - XDA Developers

OnePlus smartphones have been at the forefront of charging tech since the early days of the company, going as far back as the OnePlus 2. While they do get some flak for sticking to proprietary charging tech, there’s no denying that OnePlus smartphones have regularly been one of the fastest charging phones you could purchase. OnePlus is pushing the envelope again with new charging tech from OPPO, now powering the OnePlus 10R in its 80W and 150W avatars. The phone launches alongside the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite and the OnePlus Nord Buds, and launches just half a day before the Realme GT Neo 3 launches, a phone that is based on the same reference design from the parent company OPPO.

The OnePlus 10R is the newest affordable flagship offering from OnePlus. It succeeds last year’s OnePlus 9R and offers many upgrades over its predecessor, including a better display, a faster chipset, and up to 150W fast wired charging support. The OnePlus 10R is essentially the same phone as the OnePlus Ace that launched in China last week. You get a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, though this is not an LTPO display. Under the hood, the phone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8100-MAX chipset, paired with either 8GB or 12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB UFS 3.1 flash storage. As far as camera hardware is concerned, there’s a triple rear camera system on the back, highlighted by a 50MP Sony IMX766 main shooter with OIS support and backed by an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro lens.

OnePlus 10R in Forrest Green and Sierra Black colors

The biggest upgrade on the OnePlus 10R is the charging speed. There are two models: one with 80W fast charging on a 5,000 mAh battery, and the other being the Endurance Edition with 150W fast charging on a smaller 4,500 mAh battery. On the Endurance Edition with the fast charging mode enabled, OnePlus claims that you can charge the phone’s battery from 0-100% in just 17 minutes; the 80W version is claimed to do the same in 32 mins for its larger battery. The charging brick and cable you get in the box changes depending on the version you buy: the 80W version comes with the same adapter and cable as you get in the OnePlus 10 Pro Indian box, while the 150W version comes with a 160W Type C charger (that can do up to 45W USB Power Deliver) and a Type C to C cable. OnePlus also claims higher battery health on the 150W variant with the Battery Health Engine tech: claiming 80% health after 1600 cycles, while the industry standard is 800 cycles.

Curiously, the frame of the device is polycarbonate instead of metal, which is not something you see on the flagship lineup of OnePlus. The phone comes equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner and stereo speakers. On the software front, it runs Android 12 out of the box with OxygenOS 12.1 on top. The device will receive three major Android version updates and four years of security updates.

Pricing & Availability

The OnePlus 10R comes in two colors in India: Sierra Black and Forrest Green. The 150W charging is restricted to the Endurance Edition, which you can get only in 12GB + 256GB configuration in the Sierra Black color. Pricing for the series is as follows:

  • 8GB + 128GB: ₹38,999 (~$509)
  • 12GB + 256GB: ₹42,999 (~$561)
  • 12GB + 256GB, 150W Endurance Edition in Sierra Black: ₹43,999 (~$574)

The device goes on sale on May 4 across Amazon.in, OnePlus.in and offline OnePlus stores.

Feeling adventurous? Get this Apple Self Service Repair kit for your damaged iPhone 13, iPhone 12 - HT Tech

Apple Self Service Repair kit is now available in the US. The program allows Apple customers to repair their iPhones as of now.

Feeling adventurous? Instead of going out on a risky hike, you can try repairing your damaged iPhone at home! Yes, you read it right – YOU can repair your iPhone at HOME! Apple had announced its Self Service Repair program last year and has finally gone ahead with it. The program begins with iPhones for now and will eventually expand to Apple Silicon powered Macs and will be available in more countries. As of now, only US customers of Apple get to avail this service for select devices.

The Self Service Repair online shop lets you repair displays, batteries, speakers, camera modules, SIM trays and Taptic engines on select iPhone models as of now. Customers can also repair a bunch of miscellaneous spare parts like bolts and screws on their iPhones. The prices of these repair kits vary depending on the device model and the kind of repair you are going to do. Additionally, there are credit benefits if you are recycle old parts.

Apple Self Service Repair kits available for iPhones

As of now, the Self Service Repair program is available for a select few iPhone models. These include the iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and the iPhone SE 2022. For example, the display repair kit for iPhone 13 will set you back by $269.95 and this will include the display, screw kit, adhesive and security screws. Similarly, the battery repair kit for the iPhone 13 costs $70.99. If this ends up being too heavy on your wallet, you can even rent the repair kit at a much lower price. Additionally, if you return old display or battery units, you can get some credit back.

Note that the Self Service Repair kit is only for those who have a working understanding of electronic devices and how to repair them. Apple says that this service is “intended for individuals who are experienced with the complexities of repairing electronic devices.” Also, the Self Service Repair kit will not void your device warranty, although any damage inflicted during the process will not be covered.

You should also know that certain repair kits will require System Configuration software to complete the repair process. In these cases, the Self Service Repair Store will reach out via phone calls or chat to complete the configuration.

Note that the service is only available in the US and may extend to the European markets later. Apple is yet to comment on the possibility of this coming to India.

From WhatsApp group polls to linking new mobile devices, check amazing stuff likely coming soon - HT Tech

WhatsApp group polls and the ability to link new mobile devices to your WhatsApp account are in the works. Check details here.

Social networking apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, among others are different from each other in several ways. There are certain features which you can find on WhatsApp but not on Instagram or Telegram and vice versa. But in order to give tough competition to each other and let the users enjoy the application with more features, these companies keep on working on and rolling out new updates. And as per a latest WhatsApp update, the company is working on group polls. Informing about the same, WABetaInfo tweeted, "WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.10.11: what's new? WhatsApp is finally working on group polls for a future update of the app."

Earlier, WABetinfo had announced that WhatsApp is working on the ability to create group polls for a future update of WhatsApp beta for iOS and WhatsApp Desktop beta. And now as per the latest details, the messaging application is working on group polls on WhatsApp beta for Android. "In particular, WhatsApp is working on a new section of the app on WhatsApp beta for Android where to create group polls in a future update," WABetaInfo said in a report.

Also read: Looking for a smartphone? To check mobile finder click here.

The report further informed that under the option to create group polls there are some fields where the users will have to fill in the question and their options, and it is possible to add up to 12 possible options. When the feature is rolled out to beta testers, the group poll will be end-to-end encrypted, that is no one can see its content, not even WhatsApp. However, the exact release date for the WhatsApp group poll feature is not yet known.

Other than group polls the messaging application is also working on the ability to link new mobile devices to your WhatsApp account. This will also be rolled out in a future update and a release date for the same is not yet known. "A second version of multi-device was already planned last year, and we have finally new details today: WhatsApp is now working on a proper section where to link another mobile device!," WABetaInfo informed.

The section is called “Register Device as Companion” and it will show up when you try to open WhatsApp on a secondary mobile device. In this case, you can also decide to link your WhatsApp account in order to use it on another device, the report added.

"At the moment, it seems that it is needed to point your main device to the screen of the secondary device in order to link them by scanning the QR Code: after linking your WhatsApp account to a secondary device, you can finally start to use WhatsApp on another phone! Note that, thanks to this feature, you will also be able to link an Android tablet as a secondary device in the future," WABetaInfo said.

Oppo Reno 8 India launch date LEAKS! But it will accompany another EXCITING product - HT Tech

Oppo Reno 8 is expected to launch in India by the end of June 2022. Oppo AIoT products will also be announced alongside the Reno 8 flagship.

Oppo Reno 8 is only a few months away! If the latest leak is to be taken seriously, the Reno 8 could be in India by the end of June 2022. The successor to the Reno 7 and Reno 7 Pro smartphones will be at our doorstep in just two months’ time, which is on par with the Reno launch cycle in India. Along with the Reno 8, Oppo is also expected to launch a couple of IoT products, including the much-hyped Oppo Pad tablet that has been the center of attention in global markets.

The leak, coming from tipster Mukul Sharma, suggests that the Reno 8 will launch in India by the end of June 2022. Along with the Reno 8, Oppo will be launching IoT devices, which could also include the Oppo Pad tablet. Note that this is unconfirmed information and hence, we suggest you take this with a pinch of salt. Oppo India is yet to announce anything on this front.

Also read: Looking for a smartphone? To check mobile finder click here.

Oppo Reno 8 launching in India

Prior to this, there have been leaks related to the Oppo Reno 8, especially concerning its design. The Reno 8 leaked renders showcased a design that resembles the OnePlus 10 Pro largely. However, OnePlus spokesperson have confirmed that the render is fake and the Oppo Reno 8 does not look like its flagship.

Rumours surrounding the Reno 8 have talked about its expected specifications. The biggest highlight here could be a new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip, which is said to offer the same levels of performance as the Snapdragon 888 and could compete with the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chip. The phone could also be getting LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. A 45000mAh battery could run the show and it will be backed by a 80W charging solution, claim the leaks.

The Reno 8 will also carry a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The display will hold a 32MP selfie camera, which will use the Sony IMX709 image sensor. The rear cameras will hold a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP camera. It seems the Reno 8 won’t see major camera upgrades.

The Oppo Pad, on the other hand, will mark Oppo’s entry into the tablet space. The device could compete with the recently launched Xiaomi Pad 5 but with a superior Snapdragon 870 chip at the helm. This tablet also has a 11-inch LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It remains to be seen how Oppo goes about pricing its tablet in India.

Google Play will show how apps use your data - BGR India

Google has announced privacy labels for its own apps, with the aim of providing Google Play users with more information about the data that the apps they download are collecting. Initially announced in May 2021, Google’s “Data safety” section will require developers to provide information about how their apps collect, share, and secure user data, months after Apple’s App Store introduced privacy labels on its own app marketplace. Also Read - India shipped 1 million ‘Made in India’ iPhones in Q1 2022: Report

The search engine giant has made Data Safety active on its store listings, both in a browser and in the Android store app, but it still requires developers to submit information for the listings and all developers will be required to complete this section for their apps by July 20. Also Read - Apple iPhone 14 Pro models may feature a 48MP camera, A16 chip, satellite connectivity

“We heard from users and app developers that displaying the data an app collects, without additional context, is not enough,” Google explained. “That’s why we designed the Data safety section to allow developers to clearly mark what data is being collected and for what purpose it’s being used.” Also Read - Got an iPhone? Here are top ways you can speed it up

Here are the information developers can show in the Data safety section:

Whether the developer is collecting data and for what purpose.

Whether the developer is sharing data with third parties.

The app’s security practices, like encryption of data in transit and whether users can ask for data to be deleted.

Whether a qualifying app has committed to following Google Play’s Families Policy to better protect children in the Play store.

Whether the developer has validated their security practices against a global security standard (more specifically, the MASVS).

Apple Mail Privacy Protection

Meanwhile, Apple also expanded its privacy-focused approach to another level with new protections in iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS Monterey, and watchOS 8, which help users better control and manage access to their data.

In the Mail app, the new ‘Mail Privacy Protection’ stops senders from using invisible pixels to collect information about the user.

The feature helps users prevent senders from knowing when they open an email, and masks their IP address so it can’t be linked to other online activity or used to determine their location, the company said during its flagship WWDC21 developer conference.

“Privacy has been central to our work at Apple from the very beginning,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.

Twitter is testing Vibe Check feature! Here’s everything you need to know - HT Tech

Twitter is working on a new feature that will allow users to set status.

Twitter is reportedly testing a new feature that will allow users to set status. Dubbed as a “Vibe Check” feature, it was first spotted by Jane Manchun Wong, a researcher and reverse engineer who is known for keeping a track of upcoming app updates. She tweeted, “Twitter is working on “Set a status” in Tweet Composer, codenamed “Vibe.” You can think of it as something similar to Instagram Threads app’s Status.” She even shared a screenshot of the same showing a “Set a status” tab just above the tweet box. That’s not all but there is also a dropdown list that has five pre-set vibes including “Lurking Twitter”, “shopping grocery” and “driving highway.”

Also read: Looking for a smartphone? To check mobile finder click here.

However, as of now it’s not clear if the statuses will be limited to presets or users will be able to add custom updates.

The upcoming feature has also been spotted by Alessandro Paluzzi. In a recent tweet, he shared, “Twitter is working on Vibes… It should also be possible to add an emoji, perhaps it is something similar to the feeling/activity option of Facebook posts.”

All we know so far about Twitter Vibe Check feature

The Twitter status feature is similar to the Facebook “feelings/activities” feature appended to posts. However, it could be on a per-tweet basis with each post having its own, or on a profile basis with the status appearing on tweets and on the profile view. The exact launch date of the new feature is yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, Twitter has also started testing a new feature that will let users unmention themselves from conversations or discussions that they don’t want to be part of. The platform itself shared the same via a short clip on its Twitter Safety handle shows. Apple iPhone 14 launch date? Know when new iPhone release is going to be - HT Tech

We all have been bombarded with a massive amount of information about Apple iPhone 14 launch date. Here’s when you can expect Apple iPhone 14 launch.

Apple iPhone 14 has been a hot topic among fans. All are wanting to know when the iPhone 14 launch date is. The hype around the phone has built up and it is being touted as a game-changer. The reason behind it is that the iPhone 14 is expected to bring all the futuristic tech that was speculated for iPhone 13. However, that hype got punctured. The same has shifted to iPhone 14 now. Till date, we all know a lot of things about iPhone 14 through leaks and rumours. Whether it is about its design, camera upgrades, connectivity, chipset, or even price - we have a whole list of specs and features that iPhone 14 may bring along on launch. But wait! What about iPhone 14 launch date? We haven’t heard anything much regarding the launch of iPhone 14 except it is expected sometime in the Fall. But based on the pattern of previous iPhone launches, here’s when we can expect the iPhone 14 launch to happen.

Expected Apple iPhone 14 launch date

While there is a lot of buzz around the features and upgraded specs of iPhone 14, the launch date expectations are all based on the vague idea that it will hit the market in the second half of the year. But while speculating about the previous launches of Apple smartphones from its iPhone 6 series to the latest flagship iPhone 13, September has been the lucky month to launch all the iPhones.

Though, exceptions are everywhere! The iPhone 12 series was announced in October 2020, but that time was the first year of Covid-19 pandemic. Rest of the iPhones announcements were made in September. It will not be difficult to guess that Apple is most likely to announce the launch of the next iPhone 14 series in September 2022. Unless there is any delay in manufacturing of the iPhone 14, of course!

Expected iPhone 14 features and specs

Based on the leaks and rumours, the camera department of the iPhone 14 may not feature any major upgrades as it is expected to carry the same current 12MP camera sensors, while the pro models may get the major boost with a 48MP primary sensor. And its design is not a secret anymore! Several reports and leaks hint that the iPhone 14 Pro will feature a pill-shaped hole-punch cutout along with the punch-hole beside it, while basic iPhone 14 may continue with small notch such as iPhone 13 series. There are other details regarding iPhone 14 Pro such as it may pack a new A16 Bionic chipset and e-SIM option. The overall design of Pro models may be a bit more rounded too.

But do remember that all the information about the iPhone 14 is currently in the phase where nothing is official and it should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Google Pixel Watch Name Confirmed? New Leaked Photos Show Upcoming Smartwatch - News18

Google’s first smartwatch is getting a lot of mileage these days, and multiple reports take our interest further. Few days back, Google was spotted filing for trademark of the name Pixel Watch, which more or less confirms the name and existence of this smartwatch which is codenamed as Pixel Rohan by the company. And now, out of nowhere, we have possibly got our first look at the Pixel Watch in the wild, more like a restaurant.

The images come via AndroidCentral, who was sourced with the visuals of a circular-shaped watch that was found with a box. As you can see in the image below, the smartwatch has a circular design, with the dial on the side, along with two buttons to control navigation.

The report also mentions that the smartwatch could use proprietary charging and watch straps, which means you might not be able to get third-party straps unless Google offers them via third-party brands.

The one good thing about the leaked photo of the rumoured Pixel Watch is that it doesn’t have bezels on the display, which is what previous reports of the smartwatch have said.

Is this the upcoming Google Pixel Watch smartwatch?

The box did not have any charger, which has made them speculate about the possibility of having wireless charging for the Pixel Watch, with the connector attaching at the back.

The box also mentions the device is for ‘internal testing and development only’ so it could be possible that the supposed Pixel Watch has not reached the production stage just yet.

But this leak hints that Google could surely have Pixel Watch as part of its Google I/O 2022 keynote on May 11, which is just a few weeks from now.

The Pixel Watch is expected to come with the Wear OS 3.1 version which has been co-developed along with Samsung. Google could add its own Pixel touch to the interface for this smartwatch.

WhatsApp update for iPhones: Now, get up to 32 users with WhatsApp audio group call - HT Tech

After major announcements by WhatsApp last week, users have finally got the option to add 32 contacts in a single WhatsApp audio group call. Here are all the details.

It’s just been a week from when WhatsApp officially announced it will be rolling out major changes to its app. From WhatsApp Communities to Emoji reactions, Admin access to delete problematic messages, bigger file sharing, all were highlighted in the announcement . One of these big changes was the announcement to allow WhatsApp users to add up to 32 contacts on a single audio call. And now, it is reported that the Meta-owned messaging app might have already started rolling out a new stable version for iPhone users to bring up to 32 users on an audio call at a single time. Though, users in only select countries have started receiving the new update.

This will be a big change for WhatsApp users as earlier only eight participants were allowed at a time in an audio call. But things now seem to have changed! This means now iPhone users can add up to four times more participants than earlier! It is possible through WhatsApp groups. A screenshot has surfaced online showing that reads, “Group calls now support 32 participants and includes an updated interface with a social audio layout, speaker highlight and waveforms.”

WhatsApp Group Audio call layout got a new look too

As the number of participants increased in an audio call, the layout of the Group video call also got a new look. The report showed how the call participants will be shown on the screen. It suggests that every WhatsApp user in the group call will be labelled using waveform images. The new update is available for iPhone users with a new version of WhatsApp 22.8.80, the report suggested.

There’s a lot happening in the WhatsApp territory!

WhatsApp group audio call expansion is just one update! There’s a lot more that is simultaneously happening within the instant messaging app. Besides this, there are reports that WhatsApp is testing a paid feature that would let users add more devices to a single account. Right now, WhatsApp only lets users pair one smartphone at a time. Well, there is no secret that WhatsApp communities are also making their way to WhatsApp which will allow bringing several group chats to one place for better communication. WhatsApp also announced message emoji reactions and file sharing up to 2GB.

Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series details leak, there won't be a "Classic" anymore - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

We are still a couple of months away from the release of the Galaxy Watch5 series, but SamMobile has a spicy rumor to share. According to the publication's sources, Samsung is killing the "Classic" watch and replacing it with Pro. The standard option remains with the Watch5.

It's still unclear what caused the naming change. It could mean that Samsung is ditching the rotating bezel, or it could also be just a simple rebradning for some marketing reasons. Either way, the report gives away some other relevant information.

Samsung Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic Samsung Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic

For instance, the regular Watch5 will come in two sizes, while the Pro will likely be sold in just one size. Previous rumors also suggest that the latter will incorporate a big 572 mAh battery.

Lastly, to no one's surprise, the new round of watches will keep the circular design and will run on the One UI Watch platform based on Wear OS 3.

iPhones are EATING into Android dominance! iOS even beats it in this market - HT Tech

A recent survey suggests that iOS has been gaining more popularity at a rapid pace, eating into the market share of Android. Check it out.

iPhones are eating into Android’s world domination! Based on a research, it seems that iOS as a platform gained more traction across markets in the recent years, eating into the market share of Android OS. That said, it is still not an alarming situation for Android fanboys, as Google’s free-to-use smartphone OS still dominates by a mega margin. The insights presented by the research is fascinating, showing how the demand goes up and falls based on launches and time.

The research done by StockApps suggests that Android has ceded almost 8 percent of its market share to Apple’s iOS. “Its worldwide market share in January 2022 stood at 69.74%. In contrast, the OS commanded a market share of 77.32%, its highest ever, in July 2018. Thus it has ceded 7.58% of its holding in the last five years,” says the report. However, the share varies between various markets and in America, it is iOS that dominates.

iOS is catching up to Android

“Android’s loss of market share boils down to heightened competition within the OS space. A look at the data shows that iOS gained 6 percent between July 2018 and January 2022. From 19.4 percent then, Apple has grown its OS market share to 25.49 percent. Other small scale OS developers account for the remaining 1.58 percent that Google shed,” says Edith Reads from StockApps.

However, the share based on the geographic factors. For example, in Africa, it is Android that dominates with a share of 84 percent while iOS accounts for roughly 14 percent. Samsung, Nokia, and KaiOS share the remaining two percent of share.

In Europe, iOS gains more share, having a 30 percent footprint in the market. But Android continues to dominate here as well with a share of 69.32 percent. The Asian and South American markets foresee Android dominating at 81 and 90 percent respectively. In contrast, the iOS share is at 18 percent in Asia and 10 percent in South America.

In its North America where iOS commands a mega lead of 54 percent whereas Android only has a share or 45 percent.

The increase in shares of iOS can be attributed to the rise of low-cost iPhone models across markets. The iPhone SE has played a key role in increasing the reach of iPhones among the masses despite donning dated looks. Hence, Apple upgraded the iPhone SE earlier this year with support for 5G networks and slightly better battery life. Additionally, Apple continues selling older iPhone models at lower prices in India to take on Android flagships.

Truecaller plans to stop call recording feature, here`s why - Zee News

New Delhi: Google is making yet another major effort to prevent third-party call recording Android apps. From May 11, Google will prohibit all call recording apps from the Google Play store. In fact, all legitimate call recording apps for Android will cease to function. So, if you want to record voice calls on your phone, you'll have to rely on your smartphone's native call recording feature. If your smartphone lacks a built-in call recording feature, you will be unable to record calls after May 11.

Having said that, you may always use a voice recording app on another smartphone to record a phone call after you set it on speaker.

Truecaller, one of the most popular dialer apps in India, is also used by many users to record voice calls. Call recording is, in fact, one of the most popular features of the Truecaller app in India. Truecaller has confirmed that it would no longer provide the opportunity to record phone calls around the world.

An official Truecaller spokeswoman said in a report, "At Truecaller, we have introduced call recording for all Android handsets based on overwhelming consumer requests." Truecaller's call recording function was free for all users, permission-based, and needed users to enable the capability using the Google Accessibility API. However, due to the new Google Developer Program restrictions, we are no longer able to provide call recording."

Truecaller noted that this will not affect handsets that have built-in call recording. Few smartphone manufacturers, including Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus, and Oppo, include a built-in call recorder capability that will continue to function after May 11.

For several years, Google has taken action against call recording. It all started with the Android 10 version, when Google announced that the call recording capability would be removed as part of its privacy and security plan. For this functionality, all call recording apps, including Truecaller, used the Accessibility API. Now, the Accessibility API covers a wide range of topics, and rogue apps have been seen exploiting these permissions to follow users.
