It's rare to see an Android flagship that sells for $899, and for several months Google's Pixel 6 Pro stood out as somewhat unique in that space, but now the OnePlus 10 Pro has arrived as a challenger. OnePlus has long held the line at offering advanced features for an affordable price, and the latest model holds true to that strategy, making this an exciting matchup.
The Pixel 6 Pro is a revolutionary product for Google, and the company acknowledges that with its statement that this is the first all-Google phone. Although the Pixel brand launched in 2016, following Google's Nexus phones which were first released in 2010, this is indeed the first completely Google phone. What's different about the Pixel 6 series is that Google engineered this phone all the way down to the silicon chip that powers it, Google's Tensor processor.
With the recent introduction of the OnePlus 10 Pro, the Pixel 6 Pro has a new low-cost challenger. These are excellent 6.7-inch phones with attractive prices, and choosing between them won't be easy. Both feature three rear cameras, with Google offering a higher resolution, four times optical zoom at 48 megapixels, versus the OnePlus' 8-megapixel 3.3 times camera. OnePlus easily wins in the ultra-wide camera category with a 50-megapixel sensor with a vast 150-degree field of view. By comparison, Google's 12-megapixel ultra-wide is relatively narrow, spanning just 114 degrees, the Pixel 6 Pro's only weak spot when it comes to photography. The main cameras are closely matched with 48 and 50-megapixel cameras for the OnePlus 10 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro, respectively. While this seems like a reasonably close matchup on paper, early reviewers have found that the OnePlus 10 Pro captures good but not great photos. Since photography is Google's particular strength, it's not surprising that the Pixel 6 Pro has an advantage in this area.

There is more to a smartphone than just the cameras and OnePlus packs some impressive hardware into the 10 Pro, starting with the speedy Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor that powers this device. Ranking slightly better on benchmarks than Google's Tensor chip and pulling well ahead in graphics performance, OnePlus should offer a better gaming experience. Google's Tensor doesn't noticeably lag behind Qualcomm's technology in everyday usage, however, and it might not be a significant difference for most phone games. This is similar to what Samsung Galaxy S22 users have noticed in the Exynos 2200 version. Near equal performance from the CPU but a slower GPU. Speaking of Samsung's latest flagship, the S22 has a much smaller screen and is priced at $799, while the S22+ starts at $999, which is why they weren't included in this comparison.
Both phones offer 5G, and Google seems to have gotten past some initial connectivity problems with recent updates. The two phones are closely matched with similar screen technology and build quality. The OnePlus 10 Pro also precisely matches the Pixel 6 Pro's 5000 mAh battery but has much faster charging. The included 65-watt charger is great for phones that run low on power quickly. However, the Pixel 6 Pro can reach half charge in just 30 minutes which is plenty fast for most users. The OnePlus 10 Pro is absolutely a great phone at a reasonable price. However, the pure Android experience, refined flow, and consistently impressive photography give the Pixel 6 Pro the win overall.
