Apple WWDC 2022 updates: M2 powered MacBook Air may face supply constraints; rumoured to come in four col - Times of India

Apple is expected to unveil the next-generation MacBook Air at its annual developers' conference – WWDC 2022 – but it won’t be coming in the wide range of colours tipped earlier; you might not be able to get your hands on one soon. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the coming MacBook Air will suffer a supply shortage due to COVID-19 shutdowns in China.
The COVID-19 lockdowns in China have been a problem for companies as they led to the temporary closure of factories, delaying production. The Cupertino giant has a few manufacturing partners in and around Shanghai, including Pegatron and Quanta. The Chinese government has started easing restrictions, but the lockdown remains in effect in some parts of the Shangai, causing trouble for these manufacturing units.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts Apple to ship around 6-7 million units of MacBook Air this year if Quanta’s Shanghai plan can get back to pre-lockdown production capacity before the third quarter. Further, Kuo says that shipments for the upcoming MacBook Air would be better than the existing 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. Quanta was the lone supplier for the MacBook Pro, while Quanta and Foxconn would ship the M2-powered MacBook Air.
New MacBook Air, new colours
Now, coming to the colours; both Gurman and Kuo says that the upcoming MacBook Air would not be coming in the wide range of colours, as rumoured earlier. Kuo says that MacBook Air would come in two new colours – dark blue and champagne gold – in addition to the already existing space grey and silver.
The new MacBook Air is rumoured to come with the second-generation baseline M-series chip, dubbed M2. Further, it would have a 13-inch display, two USB-C ports and a MagSafe charging port. Gurman also expects it comes with a notch and a design similar to the Pro models.
