Google and Japanese game developer Taito have released a new game called Space Invaders: World Defense. The Augmented Reality (AR) game allows players to blast aliens into the real world around them.
Currently, the game is available to download on ARCore-supported Android devices and iOS. Space Invaders: World Defense was created in honour of the 45th anniversary of the original Space Invaders video game.
Blasting at aliens
In World Defense, Space Invaders appear from building and rooftops - hiding behind various structures. Users can hunt these aliens while discovering new Space Invaders in their localities.
According to Google's blog post, players can also unlock special power-ups and team up with other plays. In addition, they can share their achievements on social media with an AR selfie.

The game is supported by Google's ARCore tech. Essentially, if your device doesn't support ARCore, this game will not play on the same. The company also uses its Geospatial API to bring the immediate surroundings of buildings, including buildings and landscapes, into the game.
The AR game is among many that have tried to impact the market lately. While games like Pokémon Go have been a great success, many others have been shelved even before making it to the users, including a Minecraft AR game, and The Witcher AR game.
