Meta's WhatsApp on Thursday introduced a new ‘secret code’ feature, enabling users to establish a ‘unique password’ for unlocking their locked chats, bolstering an additional layer of security. The instant messaging platform had earlier introduced the ‘chat lock’ feature in May this year.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a blog post, “Rolling out secret code to Chat Lock on WhatsApp so you can protect your chats with a unique password. Now you can set your locked chats to only appear when you type the secret code in the search bar, so no one can unintentionally discover your most private conversations.”
WhatsApp's official X (formerly Twitter account) said, “What locked chats? nothing to see here…soon you can hide your locked chats folder. then reveal it by typing your secret code into the search bar.”
In a blog, the messaging platform said, “We’re so happy our community has been loving Chat Lock, and hope that secret code makes it even more useful to them.”
With this recent update, WhatsApp has significantly enhanced security by introducing the new secret code feature for all users. This feature allows users to craft a unique password, using words or emojis, to secure their chats with a passcode exclusive to them.

How is this going to work?
With the addition of a secret code, WhatsApp users can now establish a distinct password, separate from their phone unlock code, offering an extra level of privacy for their locked chats. The users will now have the flexibility to conceal the locked chats folder from their chatlist, ensuring access only by entering the secret code in the search bar.
Alternatively, users can opt to keep these locked chats visible in their chatlist. Locking a new chat is simplified by a long-press action, eliminating the need to navigate to the chat settings.
Enabling the option to hide the locked chats folder ensures these conversations remain discreet, no longer appearing in the primary chat window. This feature grants users heightened privacy compared to the current WhatsApp design, which reveals a locked chat shortcut when swiping down on the chat screen.
Steps to use this feature
-Open WhatsApp on your device.
-Go to the section displaying locked chats.
-Select the three dots option and activate the “Hide locked chats” feature.
-Proceed to establish a unique secret code to gain access to the concealed locked chats.
-Concealed locked chats will remain absent from the primary chat window.
-Enter the secret code within the search bar to temporarily unveil the hidden locked chats.
Google announced today that its Messages app on Android has crossed 1 billion users sending RCS messages every month. RCS is a new messaging protocol created by mobile carriers to replace the decades-old SMS standard, and it supports features you can find on most messaging apps today such as typing indicators, read receipts, and seamless group chats.

Major Indian game developers have joined PhonePe's Indus AppStore, which the fintech giant has pegged as an alternative to Google Play's Android monopoly.
"Dream11, Nazara Technologies, A23, MPL, Junglee Rummy, Taj Rummy, Rummy Passion, RummyCulture, RummyTime and CardBaazi have partnered with the Indus Appstore," the company said in a statement on Thursday.
Born out of PhonePe's IndusOS acquisition in July 2022, the Indus AppStore is designed for India, and will be available in 12 languages. The platform has promised app listings to be free for the first year and zero commission for in-app payments, something that has been a thorn between Google and Indian app developers.
It will also provide a "fair and level playing field" for developers to list, distribute and promote their products in the Indian app ecosystem, PhonePe said.
“Partnering with Indus Appstore will open avenues to reach newer audience for Gameskraft. Their ingenious video-led app discovery experience will help spark a significant wave of awareness for our apps. We are looking forward to being part of India's first appstore and reaching a wider audience," said Pratik Sahu, assistant vice president of marketing at Gameskraft, the publisher of RummyCulture and Pocket52, among other games.

Knock me down with a feather. Or the ASUS Experbook B9 OLED laptop — well, it easily qualifies as a featherweight. The latest business laptop from ASUS is absolutely ridiculous — in a good way of course. It is so light that I'm surprised every time I pick it up, and packs a punch well above its weight class.
The laptop packs an impressive array of components — a 13th-generation Intel i9 processor, 32 GB of RAM, 1 TB of SSD storage, a 16:10 14-inch OLED screen and a great keyboard, every port you can think of or want — two Type-C ports with USB power delivery support, a USB 3.2 Type-A port, ethernet connectivity via an mHDMI port, an HDMI 2.1 — all while weighing just 990 grams.
Simply ridiculous.
It must be noted here that the B9 OLED (B 9403) is aimed at CXOs, rather than regular consumers. This laptop, priced at ₹2,17,990 onwards, is available only through business-to-business purchases — so if you want to get your hands on one, you will have to reach out to an ASUS vendor and buy it from them. There is no other way to buy it, which in my opinion is a shame because this is an eminently portable, powerful machine that could have mass market appeal.
Now, with that caveat out of the way, let's get into the nuts and bolts of it.
In my two weeks of testing, the Experbook B9 was an absolute delight. The display is sharp and smooth, boasting a 2.8K resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The keys have nice travel and feel clicky — I'm writing my review on the same machine.
Working in tandem with the screen are surprisingly good speakers — the laptop comes with HDR and Dolby Atmos support, so watching supported videos is a great experience. The slim bezels — the display has a 90% screen-to-body ratio — only add to the immersion.
But while it makes for a great media consumption experience, the B9 is aimed at productivity. And in this department, it knocks it out of the park. None of my daily tasks — running two browsers with tens of tabs, Slack and a host of other applications I need for my daily workflow — appeared to tax the B9 even a little bit.
The trackpad, at the touch, transforms into a numpad, adding that extra bit of functionality without compromising on size. This is not the first ASUS laptop to feature this, and it is easily my favourite little touch — no pun intended — in a laptop, ever. Further, the trackpad on this laptop is nearly 27% larger than last year's model.
The laptop has both a fingerprint scanner and facial recognition, so unlocking the machine is a breeze. You merely look at it, and Windows Hello takes care of the rest. It also can connect to three 4K external displays through its various ports.
ASUS says the laptop's chassis is made of a magnesium-lithium alloy, making it one of the lightest laptops in its class — and I'm inclined to agree.
The battery life is impressive too — I did not exactly check how long the battery lasted on a single charge, but that was a conscious decision as I wanted to see how long I could go through a typical workday before having to plug it in. The battery lasted me about seven hours, which is better than most laptops out there.

Microsoft has unveiled the 2023 edition of its annual Windows Ugly Sweater

It's become an annual tradition, with Microsoft shipping a new and highly sought after Windows themed ugly sweater every holiday season. Last year, we had Clippy. The year before, we had Paint. This year, we have arguably the most iconic Windows "thing," the Windows XP default wallpaper, also known as "Bliss."
For those who need a refresher, the Bliss wallpaper is considered by many to be the most viewed photograph in the world. It features a green hill under a cloudy blue sky, and was the default wallpaper on millions of Windows machines between 2001 and 2008.
It was shot by photographer Charles O'Rear in 1996, before Microsoft bought the rights to it in 2000 for what is rumored to have been a "low six figure" sum. Unbelievably, O'Rear claims the photo has not been digitally altered. The hill exists alongside a busy highway in Sonoma, California, though these days it's the location of a vineyard and doesn't much resemble the iconic photo anymore.

Meta paused Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery sales as it replaces stock with a firmware issue causing incomplete charging.
Some buyers of the $130 official accessory have reported it not being recognized by the headset or not charging correctly.
Meta told Road To VR that this is due to a firmware fault with the strap itself, and since the firmware isn't user-updatable it will have to replace its inventory with units with new firmware, hence the sales pause.
If your Elite Strap with Battery exhibits the issue, you should reach out to Meta Support directly to have it replaced with a working unit.
Some retailers have delisted the device entirely, while others show it as out of stock. Meta isn't providing a timeline for when fixed units with the new firmware will become available.

Google is looking into reports where Google Drive users claimed their personal files disappeared unexpectedly from the Cloud storage service, the media has reported. The tech giant has acknowledged the issue in a recent Google community support thread, attributing it to a sync issue affecting a "limited subset" of users with Google Drive desktop versions 84.0.0.0 through 84.0.4.0.
Taking note of the issue, the company wrote on a new Google community support thread: "We’re investigating reports of an issue impacting a limited subset of Drive for desktop users and will follow up with more updates."

As per one user on the community support, they have been losing their data from May till date. The user who experienced the loss of all Google Drive data dating back to May reported the issue on Google's community support site, which was first spotted by The Register. Despite efforts by Google's support team, which included guiding the user through a data recovery process involving backup and restoration of a DriveFS folder, the problem persisted.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Google Drive on Android announced introducing a significant redesign of the document scanner interface, and getting additional features alongside a new homepage and various UI adjustments. The Android version of the Cloud storage service has been redesigned to enhance document scanning, making it even more user-friendly than before.
Accessed through the dedicated camera FAB above the "New" option, the redesigned interface of Google Drive for Android retains the "Scan" feature. Instead of the default camera app, one would encounter a customised viewfinder with prominent "Google Drive" branding and streamlined controls. Noteworthy is the addition of an "Auto capture" mode, complementing the existing "Manual" option, which automatically captures the shot when everything is aligned.
Google has started to roll out the first update to AI Core apps widely for the Pixel 8 Pro smartphone
Google has started rolling out updates for a new application called AI Core for Google Pixel 8 Pro users. The update is now available for a few Pixel 8 Pro smartphone users on the Google Play Store, according to a report by 9To5Google.
The report states that since the initial Android 14 update, Pixel devices have reserved a placeholder for AI Core. This application service will run in the background, similar to Android System Intelligence or Private Compute Services update, something the user will not directly interact with.
According to the Google Play Store description, AI Core will power features across the Android system and provide apps with the latest AI models. The description also says that the AI Core manages updates for AI models that run AI-driven features on the device.
The information page for the application links to ‘Additional settings in the app’, which presents a toggle to ‘Enable AI Core Persistent’, which allows the AI Core to run persistently, carving out memory from the device. The option is disabled by default and can also be accessed from Developers options.
According to the report, Google has started to roll out the first update to AI Core apps widely for the Pixel 8 Pro smartphone. There has been no official announcement regarding the availability of the update on Pixel 8 or other Pixel devices.
Earlier, Google added the ability to understand and analyse YouTube content to its AI chatbot Bard. In a post to Bard changelog, Google said that they are expanding the Bard YouTube Extension to understand some video content so that the user can have a richer conversation with the chatbot about it.
Bard extensions for all Google services and apps were announced in September. Although the chatbot did gain the ability to analyse YouTube videos in the initial update, it did not involve in-depth analysis of the video content.
With this update, Bard gets the ability to interpret video content on Google's streaming platform and respond to detailed queries about it.
Samsung is expected to soon launch the Galaxy A15 5G smartphone. The device was recently listed on Walmart along with the detailed specifications and pricing. The listing revealed that the device will feature a 6.5-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution, 4GB of RAM, up to 128GB of internal storage, and a 50MP main camera.
While Samsung is yet to officially announce the smartphone, the device now has received the Bluetooth SIG certification ahead of launch. In a piece of related news, the Galaxy A14 4G model was spotted on the NBTC certification website a couple of days back. The certification revealed the model number of the handset as SM-A155F/DSN. Additionally, the listing confirmed that the device will offer 4G LTE support. As far as the specifications of the device go, it is expected to feature a Helio G99 SoC as revealed by the Geekbench listing earlier. The smartphone might pack up to 4GB of RAM, and it could run Android 14 out of the box.
On the other hand, the Galaxy A15 5G is expected to feature a 6.5-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution. The device might have a water-drop shape notch which could accommodate the selfie camera. Under the hood, the smartphone is expected to be powered by Dimensity 6100+ SoC which could be coupled with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
The smartphone might boast a 50MP primary camera. The 50MP sensor could be paired with a 5MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP depth camera. The front of the smartphone is expected to include a 13MP selfie camera. The device is likely to pack a 5,000mAh battery which could offer 25W fast charging support.

Mumbai: A year after Aarey Dairy discontinued milk supply to civic-run hospitals, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will start providing tetra milk packers to all its in-patients, which can be directly served to the patient instead of serving loose milk in a glass.
This marks the first time that the CPD will oversee the tendering of milk purchases for all civic hospitals. To accommodate the shift to tetra packs, BMC has increased its budget from ₹14 crore to ₹42 crore. (Shutterstock)
On August 29, the Aarey Dairy wrote to BMC saying it would not be able to provide the civic body milk supply. The hospitals then locally purchased milk for paediatric patients, pregnant women, and patients on a nasogastric tube (a narrow-bore tube that is passed into the stomach through the nose for nutrition) who needed milk.
“We have decided to provide tetra milk packs as it is more convenient, and we do not have to serve loose milk to the patients. We are going to buy tetra packets of 100 ml, 200 ml, 500 ml, and 1 litre wherein 100 ml can be directly served to the patients,” said Vijay Balamwar, joint commissioner, central purchasing department (CPD).

Milk packets were boiled in the morning and had to be finished the same day. Tetra packs will help in bringing down possible wastages,” Balamwar said.

The city’s major hospitals, including KEM, LTMG Sion, Dr RN Cooper, and BYL Nair, along with 16 peripheral hospitals and 30 maternity homes, on a daily average collectively consume 4,000 liters of milk. The four major hospitals alone require 700 liters daily, and Aarey Dairy previously supplied this milk at a subsidized cost of ₹39 per liter.
A doctor from a civic-run hospital said milk is a crucial part of the patients’ meals. “Most of the hospitals were prioritising the patients to serve the milk instead of giving it to all. They were purchased from local vendors. It is good that the corporation will now provide to all patients,” the doctor said.

In an effort to lure users to subscribe to its paid Premium service, Google-owned YouTube is rolling out a new feature called Playables, which will let users play games directly on the platform.
Playables is a separate section of the YouTube app or desktop website that allows users to play arcade games without downloading anything, reports Gizmochina.
When users enter Playables, they will see two tabs - Home and Browse.
The Home tab shows a selection of popular titles as well as a list of recently played games. The Browse tab, on the other hand, has a larger selection of games, with around 37 currently available.
Popular titles such as Angry Birds Showdown, Brain Out, and Daily Solitaire are among the first games available on Playables. While the current library is small, more games are expected to be added in the future.
Playables is currently in beta testing and is only available to a select group of Premium subscribers. YouTube, on the other hand, plans to gradually expand access to Playables in the coming months, the report noted.
YouTube intends to continue offering Playables until March 28, 2024, at which point the company will evaluate its performance and make a decision on its future.
Meanwhile, YouTube has said it is testing new generative AI features that'll let people create music tracks using just a text prompt or a simple hummed tune.
The company introduced Dream Track, an experiment on YouTube Shorts which is powered by Google DeepMind's most advanced music generation model to date, Lyria.

A 3-year-old girl died after a glass door of a garment showroom fell on her in Ghumar Mandi, police said on Saturday.

The girl, who is from Flower Enclave in Basant Avenue, went to the showroom with her parents on Friday and started playing around the door when it suddenly fell on her.
The girl was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors declared her dead. The Division number 8 police reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
According to the eyewitness, the girl was swinging around the door holding the handle when the whole structure fell on her. The girl suffered severe injuries.
Inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO at Division number 8 police station, said that the police will take action after recording the statement of the parents of the girl.
