Apple Vision Pro battery specs revealed - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

The Apple Vision Pro reviews are in, and so we finally know its battery's specs. Back when pre-orders started, Apple only revealed that the battery was good for two hours of "general use", and 2.5 hours of video watching. It turns out those estimates were pretty accurate, perhaps even underpromising a tad.

And yet, you may have been left wondering, all this time, what the actual capacity of the battery is. Now the mystery is solved: it's 3,166 mAh. That doesn't sound like much, considering its size and 353g weight, but there's a twist.

And that's that it is capable of 13V 6A max output, and that voltage far exceeds what any 3.8V phone battery is capable of. An equivalent 35.9 Wh for the typical phone battery voltage would result in a capacity of 9,440 mAh, so if you were thinking something along the lines of "that looks just like a 10,000 mAh power bank" - well, yes.

The Vision Pro's battery is external, as you surely know by now, and it has a proprietary connector to attach it to the headset, as well as a USB-C port that charges it using the shockingly-for-Apple bundled 30W wall charger. The proprietary connector uses a twist to lock system to connect to the headset without much fumbling about.

Apple does sell extra battery packs for the Vision Pro for $200 each, but note that these aren't hot-swappable. When the cable is disconnected, the headset dies and then it reboots when the new battery is connected.

The Vision Pro will become available in the US only this Friday, on February 2. It is slated to launch in additional countries sometime later this year.

Apple gears up for 'Biggest Update' with iOS 18, could feature RCS support and AI-powered Siri: Mark Gurman | Mint - Mint

In the rapidly evolving landscape of smartphone technology, major players are constantly striving to outdo each other with innovative features, and the latest buzz surrounds Apple's purported plans for its upcoming iOS 18 update. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the Cupertino-based giant is gearing up to deliver what could be the "biggest" update in the history of iPhones.

While Gurman remained tight-lipped about specific details, he did drop a tantalizing hint in the Power On newsletter's Q&A section. "I'm told that the new operating system is seen within the company as one of the biggest iOS updates — if not the biggest — in the company's history," he wrote, leaving eager iPhone enthusiasts eagerly speculating on what Apple might have up its sleeve.

One confirmed feature is the long-awaited support for Rich Communication Services (RCS), announced by Apple in November 2023. Set to kick in with iOS 18, this support promises to elevate the messaging experience for iPhone users, offering benefits such as higher resolution photos and videos, audio messages, read receipts, and enhanced encryption.

Another eagerly anticipated addition to iOS 18 is an AI-powered Siri. According to insights from a Financial Times report, analysts at Morgan Stanley are speculating that the update will bring generative AI to the forefront, potentially transforming Siri with the incorporation of Large Language Models (LLMs). This move aligns with the broader industry trend of integrating artificial intelligence into smartphone functionalities.

Gurman went on to suggest that Craig Federighi and his team at Apple are actively exploring ways to infuse generative AI features into various aspects of iOS 18. For instance, there are murmurs that Apple Music may receive auto-generated playlists, while productivity apps like Keynote or Pages could introduce a feature that automatically generates slide decks. The company is also rumored to be working on enhancing AppleCare with generative AI, possibly streamlining customer support processes.

Very Concerning Elon Musk Reacts On Spotify CEOs Infuriated Sentiments On Apples New DMA-Induced Changes; Details - Jagran English

X owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk is the fresh name among the top tech CEOs to share his remarks on the latest changes introduced by Apple to comply with the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA). While the tech giant's press release promised changes such as sideloading, a third-party app marketplace, tweaks for Safari, opening NFC functionality and more, many app developers have sharp reactions to the change. One of them is Spotify.

Daniel Ek, CEO and Founder of Spotify, posted a detailed newsroom post that highlighted the challenges posed to developers by the new policy. Responding to this update, Musk posted that the changes are "very concerning". The compliance will come into effect this year in March. Ek termed Apple's announcement as "vague and misleading".

Also Read: iOS 17.4: Apple Set To Introduce Sideloading And Third-Party App Stores On iPhones In EU; All You Need To Know

Spotify Newsroom's post stated that Apple's new plan for compliance is a "complete and total farce". The music streaming service highlighted the "new 0.50 cent Euro fee per download, every year [for] allowing developers to exist on iOS". The company termed it as "extortion" besides the presence of commission in payments during in-app purchases.

"From our read of Apple's proposal, a developer would have to pay this fee even if a user downloaded the app, never used it and forgot to delete it," Spotify noted. Moreover, the company stated that the tech giant is charging a "17 per cent rent on developers for existing in the App Store" even if these services use alternative payment methods.

This may imply that the developers might end up paying more than what they paid to Apple in the past in some cases. Spotify noted that even if they remove the app from the App Store, things might not work. Plus, the tax on downloads and updates may increase the customer acquisition costs by up to 10x.

The streaming service noted that the new changes "offers no alternative at all [and] completely negates the goal of the DMA." Concluding a long thread on X, Daniel Ek said: "By inventing a new tax system to replace the old, Apple mocks the spirit of the law and the lawmakers who wrote it. I sincerely hope the EU recognises this for exactly what it is and stands firm, and doesn't let their work over the years all be for nothing."

Spotify CEO Calls Apple`s New EU App Store Changes `Extortion` - Zee News

New Delhi: Swedish music streaming service Spotify's CEO Daniel Ek has criticised Apple's proposed App Store changes ahead of the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), saying the changes are "at best vague and misleading" and a "new low for the company".

In a blog post, the Spotify CEO alleged that under the false pretense of compliance and concessions, Apple has put forward a new plan "that is a complete and total farce”. “Essentially, the old tax was rendered unacceptable under the DMA, so they created a new one masquerading as compliance with the law,” he argued. (Also Read: Now You Can Choose Any Hospital For Treatment; Know All About Game-Changing Rule For Health Insurance)

Earlier, Epic Games' CEO Tim Sweeney, whose company sued Apple over antitrust practices, also condemned Apple's plan, saying it was a case of “malicious compliance” and full of “junk fees”. Ek said that a completely new 0.50 cent Euro fee per download, every year, in perpetuity, to Apple for just allowing developers to exist on iOS “is extortion, plain and simple”.

“If Apple's already charging a commission of 17 percent (and 10 percent for recurring payments) on digital goods purchased, why would they also need to charge an annual flat fee for every user?” he argued.

“From our read of Apple's proposal, a developer would have to pay this fee even if a user downloaded the app, never used it and forgot to delete it. This will hurt developers, potential start-ups and those offering free apps”.

Under the new terms, if Spotify stays in the App Store and wants to offer its own in-app payment, “we will pay a 17 percent commission and a 0.50 cent Euro Core Technology Fee per install and year”.

“This equates to us being the same or worse as under the old rules. With our EU Apple install base in the 100 million user range, this new tax on downloads and updates could skyrocket our customer acquisition costs, potentially increasing them tenfold,” Ek noted.

Apple has announced changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the European Union in response to the DMA coming into force in March. For users, the changes include new controls and disclosures, and expanded protections to reduce privacy and security risks the DMA creates, the company said in a statement. The key news is that third-party app stores will be allowed on iOS for the first time. The changes will arrive with iOS 17.4 in March.

Lock Screen

  • New Unity wallpaper honors Black history and culture in celebration of Black History Month

Music

  • Collaborate on playlists allows you to invite friends to join your playlist and everyone can add, reorder, and remove songs

As OnePlus 12 gears to launch on January 23, here are 5 premium affordable smartphones to buy in India - The Financial Express

OnePlus 12 launches officially in India on January 23 at OnePlus Smooth Beyond Belief event. This is a global launch, India included, where OnePlus will also unveil to the world a relatively less expensive phone called the OnePlus 12R and OnePlus Buds 3 wireless earbuds. Going by the history of the company’s number series flagships, and a bunch of leaks that have been doing the rounds, the OnePlus 12 price in India should be well within permissible limits. The base variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is expected to launch at Rs 64,999 while the 16GB/512GB version would set you back by Rs 69,999.

We will update this piece once the prices are out officially, but even before that happens, it is safe to presume the OnePlus 12 would be a premium affordable smartphone even as the OnePlus 12R will try to distill a lot of its features— and experiences— and bring to a more mainstream price bracket. Since the phone is already out in China, and the India-bound model is expected to bag the same hardware mostly, we can paint a picture leading into launch to give you a rundown on everything that you can expect from the OnePlus 12.

OnePlus 12 – specs, features, price

The OnePlus 12 comes with a 6.82-inch 2K or 1440p LTPO AMOLED display with a peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits. OnePlus has put its rainwater touch technology –to be called aqua touch in India— into the panel and so, users will be able to get smooth touch responses in rain. Support for 2,160Hz PWM dimming is also available.

Powering the OnePlus 12 is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM. Running the show is a 5,400mAh battery with 100W fast wired and 50W wireless charging.

For photography, the OnePlus 12 has a triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel main Sony LYT-808 sensor, 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 sensor behind an ultrawide lens and another 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B sensor behind a 3x periscope telephoto lens, like the setup on the OnePlus Open. On the front, the OnePlus 12 has a 32-megapixel selfie shooter.

The OnePlus 12 has a glass back and a metal frame. In India, it will come in a choice of green and black. The phone is rated IP65.

The OnePlus 12 sold in China comes in a choice of 12GB/256GB, 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB at a price of CNY 4,299 (roughly Rs 51,000), CNY 4,799 (roughly Rs 56,500) and CNY 5,299 (roughly Rs 62,500) respectively.

OnePlus 12 – 5 top alternatives you can buy

  1. Samsung Galaxy S24: The S24 will be the biggest OnePlus 12 challenger (even if its higher price tag may suggest otherwise). It’s got the specs, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and a 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display, fast wired and wireless charging, in addition to a bevy of Galaxy AI generative AI features, meant to make your phone experience “smart”. If that wasn’t enough, the S24 also gets support for seven years of software updates from Samsung, much the same as the top-shelf Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Galaxy S24 comes in a choice of 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB for Rs 79,999 and Rs 89,999, respectively.
  2. Apple iPhone 15: On the other side, lies the iPhone 15, giving you Apple’s latest and greatest tech inside a relatively more affordable price setting. The 15 has a modern design with access to Apple’s Dynamic Island. The phone is IP68 rated and comes powered by the A16 Bionic, a pro chip previously seen on the iPhone 14 Pro. You get a 48-megapixel main camera sensor in the iPhone 15 that allows for 2x zoom and portrait capture without needing to actually switch to the dedicated portrait mode. It is joined by another 12-megapixel ultrawide. The iPhone 15 comes in a choice of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB for Rs 79,900, Rs 89,900, and Rs 1,09,900, respectively.
  3. Google Pixel 8: The Pixel 8 uses the first-generation Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and is IP68 rated. It comes with a 6.2-inch non-LTPO AMOLED panel with 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate and Google’s Tensor G3 processor alongside a promise of up to seven years of software updates from Google. For photography, you get dual cameras with 50MP main and 12MP ultrawide. The Pixel 8 comes in a choice of 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB for Rs 75,999 and Rs 82,999, respectively.
  4. Vivo X100: The X100 is basically the X100 Pro with a slightly tweaked camera setup and then when you factor in the lower price, it becomes very desirable as a solid value proposition. You get a trio of high-resolution sensors in the X100 and MediaTek’s fastest chip, the Dimensity 9300 fueling the package, which is also IP68 rated for water and dust resistance. The X100 comes in a choice of 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB memory trims for Rs 63,999 and Rs 69,999, respectively.
  5. iQOO 12: The iQOO 12 offers the best value on a flagship at the time of writing. And it will continue to do so, even after the launch of the OnePlus 12. iQOO has priced it that way. Barring wireless charging and “full proof” water resistance, the iQOO 12 covers big ground in almost perceivable way giving buyers dibs at the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip without charging a bomb for it. A version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage costs Rs 52,999. The top-of-the-line 16GB/512GB trim is priced at Rs 57,999.
